Abstract

Pada proses pemeliharaan tabung gas LPG di perusahaan retester menghasilkan air limbah yang kualitasnya telah memenuhi baku mutu air limbah. Air limbah ini memiliki potensi untuk dimanfaatkan sebagai alternatif penyediaan air bersih. Hasil pengujian kualitas air limbah ini menunjukkan bahwa kandungan timbal, zat organik dan total coliform tidak memenuhi baku mutu air higiene sanitasi, sehingga diperlukan suatu unit pengolahan limbah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karateristik air limbah, merancang desain unit pengolahan air limbah, dan mengetahui efisiensi removal dari unit pengolahan air limbah agar air limbah bisa dimanfaatkan. Penelitian dilakukan pada salah satu retester tabung LPG di Kabupaten Kendal. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif, dilakukan dengan tahapan penelitian pendahuluan berupa identifikasi masalah, studi literatur, dan analisis media filter. Kemudian pelaksanaan penelitian berupa pengambilan sampel air limbah, perancangan, pembuatan, serta pengujian unit pengolahan air limbah. Serta analisis karakteristik sampel air limbah dan perhitungan efisiensi removal unit pengolahan air limbah. Unit pengolahan air limbah menggunakan metode filtrasi dengan variasi ketebalan media pasir 90 cm, 120 cm, dan 140 cm serta media karbon aktif dan zeolit ketebalan 15 cm dengan rate filtrasi 5 m/jam. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian, Air limbah retester tabung LPG memiliki kandungan timbal awal <0,0736 mg/L, kandungan zat organik sebesar 87,6 mg/L, serta kandungan total coliform sebanyak 7000/100 mL. Setelah pengolahan dengan unit pengolahan air limbah, parameter timbal mengalami kenaikan kadar dapat dikarenakan adanya kontaminasi dari pasir yang digunakan. Untuk parameter zat organik, efisiensi removal terbaik terjadi pada variasi I ketebalan pasir 90 cm sebesar 59,93%. Efisiensi removal parameter total coliform terbaik pada variasi III ketebalan pasir 140 cm sebesar 60%.

English Abstract

In the maintenance process of LPG tube at retester, it generate wastewater that fulfill the wastewater quality standards. There is a potential to recycle the wastewater to be the sanitary hygiene water. The results of this wastewater quality test show that the content of lead, organic matter and total coliform does not meet the sanitary hygiene water quality standards, so a wastewater treatment unit is needed. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of wastewater, to design a wastewater treatment unit, and knowing the removal efficiency of the wastewater treatment unit so that the wastewater can be utilized. The research was conducted on one of the LPG tube retester in Kendal Regency. This study used a quantitative descriptive method, carried out with preliminary research stages in the form of problem identification, literature study, and filter media analysis. Then the implementation of research in the form of sampling wastewater, design, manufacture, and testing of wastewater treatment units. Also analysis of the characteristics of the wastewater samples and calculation of the removal efficiency of the wastewater treatment unit. Wastewater treatment unit using sand filtration method with 90 cm, 120 cm, and 140 cm of sand thickness variation by 5 m/hour filtration rate. Based on the research, initial characteristic of retester’s wastewater contains <0.0736 mg/L lead, 87,5 mg/L organic matter, and 7000/100 mL total coliform. After the treatment by the wastewater unit, lead content increased due to contamination from the sand. The best removal of organic matter happen in variation with 90 cm sand thickness with 59,93% removal. The best total coliform removal efficiency happen in variation III with 140 cm sand thickness which is 60%.
