Abstract

Produksi minyak kelapa sawit (Crude Palm Oil) di Indonesia pada tahun 2019 mencapai 48,4 juta ton dengan luas areal perkebunan kelapa sawit sebesar 14,60 juta ha. Diketahui pada setiap pengolahan satu ton kelapa sawit akan menghasilkan TKKS (Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit) sebanyak 23% TKKS atau sebesar 230 kg TKKS. Limbah TKKS memiliki kandungan selulosa, hemiselulosa dan lignin sebesar 37,3 – 46,5%, 25,3 – 33,8% dan 27,6 –32,5%. Keberlimpahan TKKS dan tingginya kandungan bahan organik menjadikan TKKS dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan bioetanol. Konversi lignoselulosa TKKS menjadi bioetanol dapat dilakukan dengan tahapan yang terdiri dari pretreatment (delignifikasi), hidrolisis, fermentasi, dan pemurnian. Pada umumnya proses hidrolisis dan fermentasi dilakukan secara terpisah. Namun pada metode Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) proses hidrolisis dan fermentasi dilakukan dalam satu tahap. Selama proses Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) berlangsung terdapat aliran bahan masuk dan bahan keluar. Input atau bahan masuk yakni jumlah bahan yang masuk ke dalam proses Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF). Pada penelitian ini dilakukan perhitungan neraca massa pada proses Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF). Neraca massa merupakan perhitungan jumlah bahan yang masuk dan keluar pada suatu proses dengan berdasarkan hukum kekekalan massa. Hasil analisis neraca massa menunjukkan bahwa proses Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) dengan bahan baku selulosa TKKS Pretreatment PEF-Ultrasonik terjadi kesetimbangan laju aliran massa yang ditandai dengan jumlah input sama dengan jumlah output. Perlakuan terbaik pada proses Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) terdapat pada perlakuan substrat loading 10%, suhu 37,49oC dan waktu fermentasi 48,6 jam dengan kadar etanol optimal yang dihasilkan sebesar 0,633%.

English Abstract

Production of palm oil (Crude Palm Oil) in Indonesia in 2019 reached 48.4 million tonnes with an area of 14.60 million ha of oil palm plantations. It is known that for every processing of one ton of palm oil, 23% of EFB (Empty Palm Oil Bunches) or 230 kg of EFB are produced. OPEFB waste contains cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin of 37.3 – 46.5%, 25.3 – 33.8% and 27.6 – 32.5%. The abundance of OPEFB and the high content of organic matter makes OPEFB can be used as raw material for bioethanol production. The conversion of lignocellulosic OPEFB into bioethanol can be carried out in stages consisting of pretreatment (delignification), hydrolysis, fermentation and purification. In general, the hydrolysis and fermentation processes are carried out separately. However, in the Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) method, the hydrolysis and fermentation processes are carried out in one stage. During the Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) process, there is a flow of incoming and outgoing materials. Input or incoming material is the amount of material that enters the Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) process. In this study, mass balance calculations were carried out in the Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) process. The mass balance is a calculation of the amount of material entering and leaving a process based on the law of conservation of mass. The results of the mass balance analysis show that the Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) process with PEFUltrasonic Pretreatment EFB cellulose raw material occurs at an equilibrium mass flow rate which is characterized by the number of inputs equal to the amount of output. The best treatment in the Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) process was found in the treatment of 10% substrate loading, temperature of 37.49oC and fermentation time of 48.6 hours with optimal ethanol content produced at 0.633%.
