Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjawab permasalahan utama pengaruh product innovation terhadap market performance yang masih inkonklusif melalui pembentukan model terintegrasi dengan variabel independen proactive dan reactive innovation dimediasi oleh product dan organizational innovation terhadap market performance melandaskan pada Resource Advantage Theory of Competition. Sebanyak 227 perusahaan furnitur anggota HIMKI menjadi populasi penelitian ini, terdiri dari perusahaan yang beromset di atas Rp. 5 milyar/tahun dan telah memiliki rekam jejak usaha lebih dari 5 tahun. Melalui metode simple random sampling, sampel berjumlah 143 perusahaan dan metode analisis data menggunakan Structural Equation Model. Hasil menunjukkan, product innovation baik langsung maupun tidak langsung yang dipengaruhi oleh proactive dan reactive innovation terbukti dapat meningkatkan market performance secara positif signifikan. Sedangkan organizational innovation tidak terbukti memediasi proactive innovation terhadap market performance karena organizational innovation tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap market performance. Orisinalitas penelitian ini adalah adanya bukti pengaruh langsung reactive innovation terhadap market performance lebih besar daripada terhadap product innovation pada industri furnitur Indonesia, sementara penelitian lain melaporkan pengaruhnya terhadap product innovation saja. Selain itu, industri ini telah menerapkan proactive dan reactive innovation namun upaya mereka menghadapi faktor struktural yang membuat organizational innovation tidak berpengaruh signifikan pada market performance
English Abstract
The objective of this study is to answer the inconclusive main problems concerning the effect of product innovation on market performance by creating an integrated model using proactive and reactive innovations as the independent variables, product and organizational innovations as the mediating variables, and market performance as the dependent variable refer to Resource Advantage Theory of Competition. The population of this research is 227 furniture companies listed on the HIMKI membership; they should be firms with the minimum revenue of over IDR 5 billion per year and have the minimum track record of five years. Using simple random sampling techniques, 143 were selected as the sample. The data of this research was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. This study finds that product innovations that are directly and indirectly influenced by proactive and reactive innovations can increase market performance significantly. Meanwhile, organizational innovation does not mediate the effect of proactive innovation on market performance as it has no significant effect on market performance. The originality of this study, proves the direct effect of reactive innovation on market performance bigger than on product innovation in Indonesian furniture sector, while other studies reported its effect on product innovation only. Furthermore, this furniture sector has been implementing proactive and reactive innovation however their effort are facing structural factors that makes organizational innovation has no effect on market performance.
