Abstract

Sektor pertanian berkontribusi penting dalam pembangunan ekonomi di Indonesia. Peranan sektor pertanian di Indonesia yaitu sebagai penyedia bahan baku untuk sektor industri, penyerap tenaga kerja, dan sebagai salah satu penghasil devisa negara. Berdasarkan data BPS 2018, didapatkan juga jumlah petani di Kota Batu yaitu sebanyak 16.903 jiwa dengan presentase kelompok usia terbanyak yaitu 45-54 tahun yaitu sejumlah 4.864 jiwa. Sehingga karena kurangnya minat generasi muda dalam menekuni bidang pertanian, terjadi fenomena menuanya petani (aging farmer) dengan rata-rata petani berusia 40 tahun keatas. Terjadi kekhawatiran apabila keberlanjutan pertanian bergantung pada populasi menua yang anggotanya cenderung rentan terhadap penyakit kronis sehingga dapat berdampak negatif pada produksi pertanian. Ketersediaan tenaga kerja muda dengan kondisi fisik yang sehat dapat meningkatkan output dalam industri pertanian dan diperkirakan dengan kemampuan unik generasi muda (dinamis, petualangan, dan ambisi) akan memainkan peran yang lebih besar dalam keberhasilan sektor yang berkelanjutan. Desa Sidomulyo merupakan salah satu desa yang berada di Kecamatan Batu, Kota Batu dengan kondisi wilayah yang sebagian besar penggunaan lahan sebagai sawah irigasi teknis dengan luas 184.021 ha. Desa Sidomulyo juga dikenal sebagai agrowisata bunga atau lebih popular dengan sebutan Desa Wisata Bunga karena Desa Sidomulyo merupakan sentra tanaman hias yang cukup penting di Indonesia. Berdasarkan data yang menunjukkan adanya fenomena aging farmer dan juga didukung oleh tingginya potensi usahatani tanaman hias di Desa Sidomulyo, sehingga peneliti melakukan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis mengenai persepsi generasi muda terhadap pekerjaan pada usahatani tanaman hias di Desa Sidomulyo Kecamatan Batu dan menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi keputusan generasi muda untuk bekerja pada usahatani tanaman hias di Desa Sidomulyo Kecamatan Batu.

English Abstract

The agricultural sector plays an important role in economic development in Indonesia. The role of the agricultural sector in Indonesia is as a provider of raw materials for the industrial sector, an absorber of labor, and as one of the country's foreign exchange earners. Based on 2018 BPS data, it was also found that the number of farmers in Batu City was 16,903 people with the highest percentage of the age group being 45-54 years old, which was 4,864 people. So, due to the lack of interest of the younger generation in pursuing agriculture, there is a phenomenon of aging farmers (aging farmer) with an average farmer aged 40 years and over. There is concern that agricultural sustainability depends on an aging population whose members tend to be vulnerable to chronic diseases that can have a negative impact on agricultural production. The availability of a young workforce with a healthy physical condition can increase output in the agricultural industry and it is predicted that the unique abilities of the younger generation (dynamic, adventurous and ambitious) will play a greater role in the success of the sustainable sector. Sidomulyo Village is one of the villages located in Batu District, Batu City with the condition of the area that most of the land use is as technical irrigation rice fields with an area of 184,021 ha. Sidomulyo Village is also known as flower agrotourism or more popularly known as Flower Tourism Village because Sidomulyo Village is a center of ornamental plants which is quite important in Indonesia. Based on data that shows the aging farmer phenomenon and is also supported by the high potential of ornamental plant farming in Sidomulyo Village, so the researchers conducted a study that aimed to analyze the perception of the younger generation towards work on ornamental plant farming in Sidomulyo Village, Batu District and analyze the factors that influence the decision of the younger generation to work on ornamental plant farming in Sidomulyo Village, Batu District.
