Magister thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

Perlakuan yang dicobakan terdiri atas P0 (pakan basal (tanpa penambahan perlakuan), P1 (pakan basal + formula herbal (jahe 0,25% + temulawak 0,25%) + BAL 0,2%), P2 (pakan basal + formula herbal (jahe 0,50% + temulawak 0,50%) + BAL 0,2%), P3 (pakan basal + formula herbal (jahe 0,75% + temulawak 0,75%) + BAL 0,2%).

English Abstract

The study was aimed to evaluate the inclusion effect of lactic acid bacteria and herbal formulas as an alternative to antibacterial growth promoter (AGP) in feed. The material used was 168 laying hens aged 35 weeks Isa Brown strain produced by PT. Malindo Feedmill Tbk Gresik, East Java with a coefficient of variation of egg mass of 5.92%, divided into 4 treatments, 6 replications, each consisting of 7 chickens. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) from a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and if there were differences it was continued with Duncan's test. The method used is experimental research. The treatments tested consisted of P0 (basal feed (without additional treatment), P1 (basal feed + herbal formula (0.25% ginger + 0.25% curcuma) + 0.2% LAB), P2 (basal feed + herbal formula) (ginger 0.50% + curcuma 0.50%) + LAB 0.2%), P3 (basal feed + herbal formula (ginger 0.75% + curcuma 0.75%) + LAB 0.2%). The results showed that the herbal formula consisting of ginger and curcuma powder had a strong inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp. The addition of herbal formula additiond with LAB had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on feed consumption, HDP, egg mass, FCR, egg weight but had no significant effect (P>0.01) on IOFC. The addition of BAL addition and herbal formula also had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the number of microflora colonies in the intestines of laying hens. The herbal formula has strong inhibition against Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. at the best level, namely 0.75% with a diameter of almost the same bacterial inhibition as the antibacterial Chloramphenicol. The addition of herbal formulas and LAB in the basal feed at a level of 0.25% can improve production performance including feed consumption, HDP, FCR, egg mass and egg weight. The herbal formula can also suppress the growth of pathogenic bacterial colonies in the intestines of Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. chickens.
