Abstract

English Abstract

The objective of the research was conducted to analyze the correlation between Body Condition Score (BCS) with calf birth weight and colostrum production in late pregnancy crossbreed Friesian Holstein dairy cattle. The method of this research by survey on smallholder farmer at Jabung, Malang regency, East Java. The survey was conducted on 52 lactating cows, and the variables observed included BCS, calf birth weight, colostrum production. The result showed that the average birth weight of calves with a BCS value of 3 = 35.05±4.09 kg; BCS 3.5 = 37.65±4.40 kg and BCS 4 = 35±3,27 kg. And regression of the relationship between BCS of late pregancy with calf birth weight Y₁ = 34.41+0.47X, while correlation coefficient (r) was 0.043, and the coefficient of determination (R2) = 0.19%. Colostrum production at of BCS 3 = 7.11 liters±1.32 / day, BCS 3.5 = 7.91±1.61 liters / day and BCS 4 = 8.13±1,82 liters / day. Regression equation of the relationship between BCS of late preganancy and colostrum production Y₂ = 3.98+1.071X₂, and the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.254 and the coefficient of determination (R2) = 6.4%. It can be concluded that BCS of late gestation in dairy cows has no effect on calf birth weight and colostrum production.
