Abstract

Salah satu penyebab kecacatan dan mortalitas di dunia disebabkan oleh perilaku sedentary yang juga merupakan faktor resiko dari berbagai penyakit. Walaupun demikian, masih banyak populasi yang berperilaku sedentary tak terkecuali mahasiswa kedokteran. Kontras dengan perilaku sedentary yang berdampak buruk terhadap kesehatan, aktivitas fisik diketahui memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap fungsi kognitif dan neuroplastisitas yang difasilitasi oleh brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menguji hubungan perilaku sedentary dengan fungsi kognitif dan kadar BDNF saliva pada mahasiswa kedokteran. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian observasional dengan pendekatan cross-sectional dengan menggunakan instrumen berupa kuesioner Sedentary Behaviour Questionnaire (SBQ), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), dan Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) sebagai alat ukur perilaku sedentary, fungsi kognitif, dan kadar BDNF saliva. Pada uji korelasi Spearman yang menguji hubungan perilaku sedentary dengan fungsi kognitif dan perilaku sedentary dengan kadar BDNF saliva, didapatkan nilai p-value sebesar 0.528 dan 0.720 yang menunjukkan tidak adanya hubungan signifikan antar variabel. Sehingga dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa pada penelitian ini tidak didapatkan hubungan antara perilaku sedentary dengan fungsi kognitif dan kadar BDNF saliva pada mahasiswa kedokteran.

English Abstract

One of the causes of disability and mortality in the world is caused by sedentary behavior which is also a risk factor for various diseases. However, there are still many populations who behave sedentary, including medical students. In contrast to sedentary behavior that adversely affects health, physical activity is known to have a positive influence on cognitive function and neuroplasticity which is facilitated by brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This study aimed to examine the relationship between sedentary behavior and cognitive function and salivary BDNF levels in medical students. This research is an observational study with a cross-sectional approach using instruments such as the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) as instruments to measure sedentary behavior, cognitive function, and levels salivary BDNF. In the Spearman correlation test, which examined the relationship between sedentary behavior and cognitive function and sedentary behavior with salivary BDNF levels, p-values were 0.528 and 0.720, indicating no significant relationship between variables. Therefore, it can be concluded that in this study there was no relationship between sedentary behavior with cognitive function and salivary BDNF levels in medical students.
