Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by SARS-COV2 that can lead to Acute Respiratory Syndrome. SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted person-to-person via droplets, making Coronavirus rapidly spread worldwide and become a pandemic. A rapid spread followed by the increase of COVID-19-confirmed death cases triggered an emergency response from governments across the world to publish COVID-19 health guidance. However, in the government's response to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, misinformation has become a challenge due to its effect, instead of trusting an official explanation, people tend to trust widely spread misinformation on social media. Trust in COVID-19 misinformation is hypothesized to correlate with lower adherence to public health guidance. The study aimed to determine the correlation between trust levels in COVID-19 misinformation with people‟s adherence levels to COVID-19 health guidance. A cross-sectional study using an observational analytic design was conducted for this study. The samples were selected by consecutive sampling with 103 Malang Regency respondents fulfilling inclusion criteria. The levels of COVID-19 misinformation trust levels and COVID-19 health guidance adherence levels were measured by a five-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The Pearson correlation test was used to determine a correlation between two variables. There was a significant negative correlation (Pearson Value = -0,672) between COVID-19 misinformation trust and adherence to COVID-19 public health guidance. Conclusion of this study is a higher level of COVID-19 misinformation trust is strongly correlated with a lower COVID-19 public health adherence.
