Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan makna yang terkandung didalam seri seni grafis “Juxtapose” karya Enka Komariah melalui pendekatan teori semiotika serta menjelaskan bagaimana kritik sosial disampaikan dalam seri seni grafis “Juxtapose” karya Enka Komariah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan instrumen utama peneliti, sebagai instrumen pendukung adalah pedoman observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian adalah seri seni grafis “Juxtapose” karya Enka Komariah, sedangkan objek penilitian adalah berupa objek material berupa objek-objek dan simbol-simbol visual pada karya “Juxtapose”. Data diperoleh dengan teknik dokumentasi dan wawancara. Data dianalisis dengan teknik kualitatif deskriptif. Keabsahan data diperoleh melalui triangulasi antara peneliti, data, dan sumber ahli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: pertama, seri seni grafis “Juxtapose” karya Enka Komariah melalui pendekatan pemaknaan denotasi dan konotasi memiliki makna tentang sebuah hegemoni atas suatu kelompok agama tertentu mendominasi ruang hidup kelompok lain sehingga menciptakan kondisi yang tidak harmonis. Kedua, kritik sosial disampaikan dalam seri seni grafis “Juxtapose” karya Enka Komariah melalui objek-objek, simbol-simbol, dan warna tertentu yang selalu hadir pada setiap karya Juxtapose. Pengulangan atas objek, simbol, dan warna yang selalu dihadirkan oleh Enka tersebut merupakan sebuah dominasi didalam karya Juxtapose itu sendiri, yang mana lebih jauh lagi Enka menciptakan karya Juxtapose karena ingin mengkritisi tentang kondisi disekitar tempat tinggalnya yang mana artefak-artefak peninggalan leluhur, budaya, dan sejarah semakin termarjinalkan dan bahkan dihancurkan oleh hegemoni dari suatu kelompok kepercayaan tertentu atas dasar perbedaan pandangan atau nilai yang dipercayai.
English Abstract
This research aims to describe the meaning contained in Enka Komariah's “Juxtapose” graphic art series through a semiotic theory approach and to explain how social criticism is conveyed in Enka Komariah's “Juxtapose” graphic art series. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with the main research instrument, as a supporting instrument is a guideline for observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subject is the graphic art series "Juxtapose" by Enka Komariah, while the object of the research is material objects in the form of visual objects and symbols in the work "Juxtapose". Data obtained by documentation and interview techniques. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques. The validity of the data was obtained through triangulation between researchers, data, and expert sources. The results show that: first, the graphic art series "Juxtapose" by Enka Komariah through the approach of denotation and connotation meanings have the meaning of a hegemony over a certain religious group dominating the living space of other groups, thus creating disharmonious conditions. Second, social criticism is conveyed in the graphic art series "Juxtapose" by Enka Komariah through certain objects, symbols, and colors that are always present in every Juxtapose work. The repetition of objects, symbols, and colors that Enka always presents is a domination in Juxtapose's work itself, which is why Enka created Juxtapose's work because he wanted to criticize the conditions around his residence where the artifacts of ancestral, cultural, and history is increasingly marginalized and even destroyed by the hegemony of a certain belief group on the basis of differences in views or beliefs.
