Abstract
Perkawinan dianggap sebagai fondasi unit keluarga dan diperlukan untuk pemeliharaan moral dan peradaban. Secara tradisional, suami adalah sosok yang bertanggung jawab memberikan nafkah untuk keluarganya, seperti kebutuhan rumah, makanan, pakaian. Suami adalah kepala keluarga. Sementara istri bertanggunggungjawab mengelola rumah tangga seperti mengasuh anak, mengerjakan perkerjaan rumah tangga dan mentaati suami. Pandangan seperti ini masih ada di masyarakat bahkan di saat kekerasan terjadi dalam rumah tangga. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap pola pikir perempuan terkait posisi dia dalam sebuah rumah tangga yang di dalamnya terdapat kekerasan, yang ada di novel Colleen Hoover It Ends with n Us. Tokoh utama dalam novel yang bernama Lily dan Jenny menunjukkan sikap yang berbeda. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan feminis, penelitian ini menekankan kajian pada tokoh Jenny. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Jenny memiliki pola pikir konservatif di mana mempengaruhi sikap dan tindakan dia. Pandangan bahwa seorang istri tidak seharusnya melawan suami, dan seharusnya mempertahankan rumah tangga demi anak menjadi beberapa alasan dia teap mempertahankan pernikahan. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pola pikir konservatif dia telah membuatnya mentolerir kekerasan rumah tangga.
English Abstract
Marriage is regarded as the foundation of the family unit and as necessary for the maintenance of morals and civilization. Traditionally, the husband is considered to be responsible for earning a living for his family. He is the one who should work to provide housing, food, and clothing. He is the head of the family. Meanwhile, a wife is supposed to be at home, take care of children, do the household and obey his husband. At present, such conservative ideas in fact remain in society, even when domestic violence happens. The purpose of this study is to reveal woman’s mindset related to violence in the household depicted in Colleen Hoover’s novel It Ends with Us. The major characters in the novels namely Lily and Jenny show different perspectives related to the position of women and domestic violence. Using the feminist approach and some theories concerning perspective, this study focused the analysis on the character of Jenny. The result shows that Jenny’s conservative mindset such as the wife should not oppose her husband, and a woman should maintain her marriage for the sake of children become some of the reasons she maintains her marriage. In conclusion, Jenny’s conservative mindset has made her tolerate domestic violence.
