Abstract

Di era di mana karya fiksi populer di kalangan remaja sementara masih ada tantangan dalam memahami bahasa Inggris, peneliti melakukan penelitian untuk mengembangkan cerita pendek dengan judul “Berteman itu Sulit”. Salah satu tantangannya adalah kurangnya variasi materi pembelajaran dalam pembelajaran tata bahasa. Peneliti mengusulkan untuk mengembangkan materi bahasa Inggris berdasarkan konteks kehidupan peserta didik itu sendiri, yaitu kesehatan mental karena urgensi kesadaran kesehatan mental di sekolah yang mengarah pada penurunan prestasi belajar peserta didik. Cerita pendek digunakan sebagai bahan mindful bahasa Inggris dengan 5 tenses termasuk; simple present tense, present continuous tense, simple past tense, past continuous tense, dan present perfect tense. Dalam mengembangkan cerpen, peneliti melalui 4 langkah; 1) pengembangan cerita; 2) validasi; 3) publikasi; 4) uji coba kepada 10 pelajar EFL dari sekolah acak. Dengan total 13 bagian, cerita-cerita tersebut diterbitkan di platform Wattpad, situs bacaan fiksi terpopuler di era pasca pandemi. Hasilnya ada tiga hal yang perlu digarisbawahi; 1) isi materi tata bahasa memadai; 2) media pembelajaran mindful dan cocok untuk dibaca peserta didik; 3) siswa bersemangat untuk belajar tata bahasa Inggris menggunakan materi mindful berdasarkan angket try out.

English Abstract

In the era where fictional works are popular with teenagers while there are still challenges in understanding English, the researchers conducted a study to develop the short stories with the title “Berteman itu Sulit”. One of the challenges is the lack of varied learning material in grammar learning. The researchers propose to develop an English material based on the learners’ own life context, that is mental health due to the urgency of mental health awareness in school that leads to the decreasing learning performance of the learners. The short stories are used as English mindful material with 5 tenses included; simple present tense, present continuous tense, simple past tense, past continuous tense, and present perfect tense. In developing short stories, the researchers went through 4 steps; 1) story development; 2) validation; 3) publication; 4) try out to 10 EFL learners from random schools. With a total of 13 parts, the stories are being published in Wattpad platform, the most popular fiction reading site in the post pandemic era. There are three things to be underlined as the result; 1) the content for grammar material is adequate; 2) the learning media is mindful and suitable for learners to read; 3) the students are excited to learn English grammar using the mindful material based on the try out questionnaire.
