Abstract
Bagaimana stereotip tersebut mulai dilihat sebagai gambaran tetap kepribadian wanita berambut pirang, menimbulkan keinginan dari untuk mengubah stereotip tersebut. One Of Us Is Lying, sebuat serial TV Amerika tahun 2021, menggambarkan stereotip pirang dan bagaimana hal itu ditantang melalui salah satu karakter Adelaide Prentiss atau Addy. Maka, dengan berfokus pada stereotip pirang dan bagaimana kemunculannya telah menjadi masalah, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap bagaimana stereotip pirang dikaitkan dengan karakter Addy dalam serial TV ini dan bagaimana dia menciptakan pandangan baru terhadap stereotip-stereotip tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif yang menggunakan teori-teori yang berkaitan dengan pendekatan sosiologis kajian gender. Karena penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji jenis stereotip gender tertentu pada perempuan dan bagaimana hal itu ditentang oleh masyarakat melalui karakter di media, data yang terkumpul akan dievaluasi menggunakan teori stereotip gender, khususnya konsep stereotip blonde yang akan membantu mengklarifikasi bagaimana beberapa stereotip pirang memberikan efek negatif terhadap wanita. Data yang digunakan diperoleh dari adegan dan dialog dalam serial TV One Of Us Is Lying yang menggambarkan stereotip blonde. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa ada beberapa stereotip pirang yang dianggap berasal dari Addy serta cara dia menantangnya. Berdasarkan analisis, stereotip pirang terkait dengan karakter Addy dari bagaimana dia digambarkan menarik, bodoh, mudah, penerima perhatian, dan rapuh. Sementara itu, bagaimana dia menantang stereotip–stereotip tersebut terlihat dari beberapa transformasi yang dialami Addy dan bagaimana karakternya berkembang. Penulis menyarankan dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut untuk menganalisis terciptanya stereotip blonde lainnya dalam masyarakat maupun di media. Penelitian selanjutnya terhadap cara lain untuk mengubah stereotip blonde juga dapat dilakukan dengan menganalisis objek riset yang berbeda seperti film dan serial TV dengan genre lain. Namun, jika peneliti selanjutnya ingin menganalisis serial TV One Of Us Is Lying (2021) maka disarankan untuk meneliti isu lain yang terdapat dalam serial TV tersebut seperti isu terkait LGBT yang tergambarkan melalui karakter Cooper Clay atau isu toxic masculinity yang tergambarkan melalui karakter Jake Riordan.
English Abstract
How stereotypes are starting to be seen as a fixed image of blonde women, further influences the reinvention of the stereotypes or to change and give new meaning to these stereotypes. A 2021 American TV series, One Of Us Is Lying, portrays the blonde stereotypes and how it is reinvented through one of the characters, Adelaide Prentiss or Addy. Therefore, by focusing on the blonde stereotypes and how the emergence of it has become an issue, the objective of this study is to disclose how the blonde stereotypes are ascribed to Addy’s character in the TV series and how she reinvents the stereotypes. This research is descriptive qualitative research that utilizes theories related to the sociological approach of gender studies. As this research aims to examine specific types of gender stereotyping of women and how it is being reinvented in society as exemplifies through a character in media, the data collection will be evaluated using gender stereotype theory, precisely the blonde stereotype concept, which will help to clarify how several of the blonde stereotypes are negative against women. The data collection will be obtained from pertinent scenes and dialogues portraying the ascription of blonde stereotypes in the TV series, One Of Us Is Lying. The findings of this research reveal that there are various blonde stereotypes ascribed to Addy, as well as ways for her to reinvent them. Based on the analysis, the blonde stereotypes are ascribed to Addy from how she is seen as attractive, dumb, easy, attention receiver, and fragile. Meanwhile, how Addy reinvents the stereotypes are demonstrated by several transformations undergone by her and the development of her character. The researcher suggests that further research is conducted to analyze the emergence of new stereotypes of blondes in society and/or portrayed in media. Further analysis on reinventing the blonde stereotypes can also be conducted by using different research object such as movie or TV series in different genre. However, if the next researcher is interested to analyze the TV series One Of Us Is Lying (2021), it is suggested the researcher analyzed different issues depicted in the series such as the issue of LGBT as portrayed through Cooper Clay’s character or toxic masculinity as portrayed through Jake Riordan’s character.
