Abstract
Skinhead merupakan sebuah kebudayaan yang muncul di Inggris sebagai bentuk reaksi terhadap adanya kelas-kelas sosial dan ketidakpuasan terhadap sistem pemerintahan berkaitan dengan kesempatan memperoleh pendidikan dan perekonomian yang layak untuk para kelas pekerja. Skinhead dianggap selalu identik dengan karakter keras, penampilan berkelas dan prinsip kebanggaan atas dirinya sendiri. Kemunculan skinhead di Kota Malang terpengaruh oleh kesamaan latar belakang dengan sejarah skinhead di Inggris tersebut. Menjadi seorang skinhead kemudian menjadi pilihan sebagai gaya hidup yang lebih realistis dengan tidak bergantung terhadap kebijakan-kebijakan pemerintah. Skinhead dianggap selalu identik dengan karakter keras, penampilan berkelas dan prinsip kebanggaan atas dirinya sendiri. Gaya hidup tersebut kemudian menjadi sebuah simbolisasi atas prinsip-prinsip kebudayaan skinhead yang meliputi kepercayaan, fashion, perilaku, tradisi dan ritual. Melalui metode etnografi, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali makna dari bentuk-bentuk simbolisasi gaya hidup kelompok skinhead di Kota Malang dan melakukan analisis lebih lanjut untuk menemukan kaitan simbol-simbol tersebut dengan kemungkinan adanya sebuah bentuk perlawanan tertentu. Adapun konsep teoretis yang digunakan yaitu teori interaksi simbolik dan cultural studies. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kesamaan latar belakang seorang pekerja dan ketidakpuasan terhadap sistem pemerintahan yang tidak adil menjadi alasan untuk menjadi seorang skinhead. Simbolisasi gaya hidup skinhead meliputi aspek abstrak yaitu sistem sosial, kelompok, kepercayaan dan perilaku serta aspek material yaitu penampilan, dan perlengkapan hidup skinhead muncul sebagai suatu bentuk prinsip kebanggaan diri dan upaya untuk menghilangkan kelas-kelas sosial di masyarakat. Menggunakan perspektif cultural studies, skinhead hanya menjadi sebuah bentuk perlawanan simbolis tanpa adanya bentuk perlawanan konkrit untuk mengubah sistem pemerintahan yang dianggap tidak berpihak kepada kelas bawah.
English Abstract
Skinhead is a culture that emerged in Britain as a form of reaction to the existence of social classes and dissatisfaction with the governance system with respect to opportunities for education and a viable economy for the working class. Skinhead is considered always synonymous with the hard character, classy appearance and the principle of pride of himself. The appearance of skinheads in Malang City is affected by the similarity of backgrounds with the history of skinheads in the UK. Being a skinhead then becomes an option as a more realistic lifestyle with no dependence on government policies. Skinhead is considered always synonymous with the hard character, classy appearance and the principle of pride of himself. The lifestyle then becomes a symbolization of the principles of skinhead culture that includes trust, fashion, behavior, tradition and ritual. Through ethnographic methods, this study aims to explore the meaning of the forms of skinhead group symbolization in Kota Malang and conduct further analysis to find the relation of these symbols with the possibility of a certain form of resistance. The theoretical concepts used are the theory of symbolic interaction and cultural studies. The results of this study indicate that the common ground of a worker and dissatisfaction with an unjust system of government is the reason for becoming a skinhead. The symbolization of the skinhead lifestyle includes abstract aspects of social systems, groups, beliefs and behaviors as well as material aspects of appearance, and skinhead survival appears as a form of self-pride principle and an attempt to eliminate social classes in society. Using the perspective of cultural studies, skinheads only become a form of symbolic resistance without any form of concrete resistance to change the system of government that is considered to be impartial to the lower classes.
