Abstract
English Abstract
X-rays are ionizing radiations and can be found in hospitals that have radiographic facilities. Radiographers will often get exposed to Xray radiation in their daily life. Leukocytes are very sensitive to X-ray radiation exposure, which causes cell necrosis. Radiation exposure can affect the number of leukocytes in the body and can have long-term effects that are bad for health. In addition to radiation, several characteristic factors can affect the number of leukocytes such as smoking habits, age, and gender. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship and differences between risk factors for X-ray radiation (length of work, workload, and received radiation dose) and individual characteristics (gender, age, and smoking habits) on the number of leukocytes in radiographers at Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang City (RSSA). Methods: This study was conducted using a total sampling method, which involved 20 radiographers. The researcher used primary data in the form of a questionnaire regarding the characteristics of the respondents and secondary data in the form of complete blood examination results and the results of the Thermoluminescent Dosimeter (TLD) examination. Results: The average amount of radiation dose received by the radiographer was 0.08 mSv, this figure was still below the specified NBD. The leukocyte count on the radiographer was still within normal limits, with an average of 7.26x103 /μL. Risk factor analysis was performed using the T-test, ANOVA test, and Pearson correlation test. The results of the analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between the amount of X-ray radiation dose and changes in the number of leukocytes on the radiographer (p>0.05). Conclusion: The results showed that there was no significant relationship and difference between risk factors for X-ray radiation (length of work, workload, and radiation dose received) and individual characteristics (sex, age, and smoking habits) on the number of leukocytes on radiographers at RSSA.
