Abstract
English Abstract
Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is a horticultural plant that is widely cultivated in Indonesia because it is quite in demand, melon has a sweet fruit taste and is rich in benefits. However, the cultivation of this plant cannot be separated from obstacles, the attack of the pathogen Pseudoperonospora cubensis is one of the main obstacles in melon cultivation. This pathogen attacks plant leaves, causing the leaves to undergo necrosis and stunted plant growth. Due to the inhibition of plant growth has an impact on decreasing crop yields. The effort that is often made to control P. cubensis attacks is the application of pesticides. However, this control effort has a negative impact if it is carried out continuously. In addition, it is known that there are several control measures that have the potential to control P. cubensis attacks but are safer and more environmentally friendly. Therefore, this study was conducted to study which control measures are more effective in controlling P. cubensis. This research was carried out in three stages, namely melon leaf test (experiment 1), P. cubensis control test in polybag scale at the field level (experiment 2) and P. cubensis control test at polybag scale at Green house level (Experiment 3). Experiments 1 and 2 were carried out by giving treatment to the leaves and then the test leaves were inoculated with pathogens from sick leaf pieces, to see the development of the disease attack and the effectiveness of each treatment. In addition, in experiment 2, pathogens were inoculated by spraying water soaked in sick leaves, and this method was also used in experiment 3. Experiment 1 was carried out by inoculation of pathogens on upper leaves, middle leaves and lower leaves that had been taken from melon plants. Each leaf was given treatment, namely control, mouthwash (1:0), PGPR (1:0), mouthwash (1:10), PGPR (1:10), mouthwash (1:40) and PGPR (1:40). . While in the experiment 2 treatments applied were control, control + pathogen, mouthwash (1:60), PGPR (1:60) by spraying, PGPR (1:60) by watering and application of the fungicide mankozeb 3 gr/l. In the iv experiment, 3 treatments were applied, namely control + pathogen, mouthwash (1:0), mouthwash (1:40) PGPR (1:0) by spraying, PGPR (1:0) by watering and application of fungicide mankozeb 5 gr/ l which is carried out on a green house scale. Based on the results of the research that has been done, it is known that the application of mouthwash products containing eucalyptol and thymol was able to reduce the attack of P. cubensis pathogens on melon plantations. In the PGPR application treatment, two different application methods gave different effects on melon plants. The application of PGPR by sprinkling it around the plant roots can increase plant growth and can suppress the attack of pathogenic fungi. While the application of PGPR by spraying on the surface of plant leaves causes damage to plant leaves, where plant leaves become blistered and withered, resulting in stunted plant growth. Meanwhile, in the fungicide treatment, the treatment gave a less than optimal effect in controlling the attack of the P. cubensis pathogen. This is because the pathogen P. cubensis is indicated to form a self-resistance mechanism against the pesticides used.
