Abstract
Diskusi mengenai komunikasi interpersonal antara suami-istri menjadi topik yang banyak diperbincangkan. Perlunya komunikasi antara keduanya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari sangat diperlukan untuk menjaga stabilitas hubungan antar pasangan. Penelitian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana istri mengatur informasi privat miliknya untuk menjaga stabilitas hubungan, yang mana bisa saja melanggar batas privasi milik suami ataupun tidak melanggar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan interpretative dengan metode fenomenologi. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah beberap istri dari tipe pasangan konvensional di Kota Malang. Penemuan dalam penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa istri sebagai pemilik informasi privat bertindak terbuka (disclose) pada suami dalam menghadapi topik yang tidak menimbulkan potensi konflik. Sebaliknya, istri bertindak tertutup (avoid disclose) pada suami saat menghadapi topik yang berpotensi menimbulkan konflik. Dalam memutuskan untuk bertindak terbuka atau tertutup, istri sangat dipengaruhi oleh faktor expected response. Oleh karenanya akses suami terhadap sejumlah informasi tidak sama di setiap topiknya. Tindakan pencegahan yang dilakukan oleh istri merupakan usaha istri dalam menghilangkan potensi konflik yang akan terjadi nantinya.
English Abstract
The discussion on interpersonal communication between husband and wife has become a widely interesting issue. Communication between husband and wife in everyday life is important to maintain the stability of the relationship. By that, this study aims to find how is the wife manage her private information to maintain the relationship stability, which is could be violate the husband’s private border or not. This research uses the interpretive approach with phenomenology method. The subjects of this research are wives from the conventional type of couple located in Malang. The finding indicate that wife as the owner of private information acts disclose to the husband in some issues which have no potential conflict. On the contrary, the wife acts avoid disclose to the husband in some issues which have potential conflict. In decide to be disclose or avoid disclose, the wive is extremely influenced by expected response. So that, the access of the husband to such information is not similar in every subjects. The preventive action taken by the wive is the wife’s effort to eliminate potential conflicts that will occur.
