Abstract
English Abstract
Background: A dental model made from Self Cured Acrylic with the addition of Nanohydroxyapatite synthesized from bovine bone is expected to be a solution for learning media for appropriate dental preparation skills. Objective: To determine the compressive strength of a Self Cured Acrylic tooth model with and without the addition of bovine bone nanohydroxyapatite. Methods: Using the precipitation method in the synthesis of bovine bone hydroxyapatite and nano-size preparation using the ball milling procedure. There were 4 groups of samples of dental models made from pure Self Cured Acrylic and with the addition of 2%, 5%, and 8% Nanohydroxyapatite, prepared in cylindrical shape (diameter 6 mm x height 12 mm) six sample each sample group. Samples were incubated in distilled water at 37 ° C for 24 hours. The compressive strength was tested by using the Micro Load System Universal Testing Machine. Results: The average compressive strength of pure Self Cured Acrylic was 83.34 MPa, Self Cured Acrylic was added with 2% nanohidroxyapatite 90.40 MPa; 5% for 93.52 MPa; and 8% for 94.85 MPa. The statistical results using oneway anova is p = 0.000 (<0.001) which means that there is a significant difference in the addition of bovine bone nanohidroxyapatite to the compressive strength of a tooth model made from Self Cured Acrylic. Conclusion: The addition of nanohydroxyapatite synthesized from bovine bone is effective in improving the mechanical properties of a dental model based on Self Cured Acrylic as a new medium for learning clinical skills of prosthodontics.
