Abstract

Menjaga kesehatan gigi dan mulut merupakan hal yang penting bagi anak autis. Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan yaitu dengan menyikat gigi secara rutin, namun hal tersebut tidak mudah dilakukan bagi anak autis karena adanya gangguan komunikasi dan motorik. Untuk mengatasi masalah komunikasi tersebut, proses latihan menyikat gigi pada anak autis dapat dilakukan menggunakan metode visual, salah satunya yaitu metode Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat kepuasan orang tua dalam penggunaan metode PECS terhadap kesehatan gigi dan mulut siswa autis di SLB Autis Laboratorium Universitas Negeri Malang. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest-posttest yang dilakukan dengan membagikan kuesioner harapan dan kepuasan yang sudah diuji. Penelitian ini memiliki sampel penelitian sebanyak orang tua 7 siswa autis di SLB Autis Lab UM. Setelah kuesioner terisi, data yang didapat diproses dan dianalisis. Dari hasil uji Paired T Test didapatkan p > 0,05, sehingga dapat dikatakan tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna antara harapan orang tua dengan kinerja metode PECS terhadap kesehatan gigi dan mulut anak autis di SLB Autis Lab UM. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara harapan orang tua dengan kinerja metode Picture Exchange Communication System terhadap kesehatan gigi dan mulut anak autis di SLB Autis Laboratorium Universitas Negeri Malang.

English Abstract

Maintaining dental and oral health is important for children with autism. One of them is by brushing teeth regularly, but it is not easy to do for autistic children because of the lack of communication and motoric skill. To solve these communication problems during brushing teeth in autistic children can be done using visual methods, one of which is the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) method. The purpose of this study is to find out on the parents’ satisfaction score in the use of the PECS method on dental and oral health of students at SLB Autis Laboratorium Universitas Negeri Malang. This study uses the one group pretest-posttest design conducted by sharing a questionnaire of expectations and satisfaction that has been tested. This study has a research sample of 7 parents of autistic students in SLB Autis Laboratorium UM. After the questionnaire was filled in, the data obtained were processed and analyzed. From the results of the Paired T Test, p>0.05, it can be concluded that there is no difference between the level of performance of the PECS method and the level of parents' expectations of the PECS method. The conclusion is there is no significant difference between expectations and the performance of Picture Exchange Communication System method on dental and oral health of autistic children in SLB Autis Laboratorium Universitas Negeri Malang
