Abstract

English Abstract

Textile industry is one of the most developed industries in the world, including in Indonesia. The development of the textile industry has a negative impact on the environment and health due to the presence of dye liquid waste produced in the textile industry. There are so many dyes that can have a negative impact on the textile industry, one of which is methylene blue or methylene blue. Methylene blue is a basic dye that is widely used because it has good solubility (Lin et al., 2011). In this research, coconut shell is used and is a hardwood with a moisture content of about 6-9% (calculated based on dry weight) which is composed of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose. The process of making adsorbent begins with reducing the size of the coconut shell carbon, and the adsorption process is carried out. The adsorption process was carried out in a batch system with stirring at a speed of 150 rpm with a mass variation of 0.1 gram; 0.3 gram; 0.5 gram; 0.7 gram; and 0.9 grams. The results of the adsorption process were tested for the removal of methylene blue content using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometer test. Coconut shell carbon was first characterized by testing FT-IR, XRF, moisture content, ash content, volatile content, and bound carbon content. The effect of the mass of the best adsorbent on the adsorption process is the mass variable of 0.5 grams with a contact time of 20 minutes with an allowance of up to 93.96%. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm with an adsorption capa
