Abstract

Serat Kenaf (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) adalah raw material yang potensial sebagai bahan baku berorientasi ekspor di indonesia. Metode retting embun merupakan teknologi penyeratan dengan memanfaatkan bakteri indigenous dengan sedikit air, sehingga proses retting lebih ramah lingkungan dan menjaga kualitas mutu serat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh retting embun pada tanaman kenaf dengan konsorsium bakteri indigenous menggunakan metode freeze drying dan mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi inokulum sediaan bakteri media BSS (bekatul, susu skim dan sukrosa) terhadap komposisi kimia dan sifat fisik serat kenaf. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang disusun secara non faktorial dengan faktor konsentrasi sediaan bakteri indigenous (25%, 50%, 75% dan kontrol). Metode penelitian ini terdiri atas identifikasi konsorsium bakteri indigenous, mikroenkapsulasi, uji Total Plate Count (TPC), aplikasi mikroenkapsulasi retting kenaf, analisis sifat fisik serat, rendemen, dan penentuan kandungan kimia serat kenaf. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil penyeratan kenaf dengan metode retting embun dengan menggunakan inokulum sediaan konsorsium bakteri indigenous mempengaruhi karakteristik sifat fisik serat, kadar selulosa dan kadar lignin. Namun, tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap nilai rendemen serat dan kadar lignin. Konsorsium bakteri indigenous teridentifikasi 15 isolat bakteri meliputi 5 isolat bakteri selulolitik, 5 isolat bakteri hemiselulolitik, 3 isolat bakteri pektinolitik dan 2 isolat bakteri lignolitik. Penyeratan kenaf dengan retting embun menghasilkan nilai rendemen 5,08%, berwarna putih berkilau, bau segar, tekstur sedang dengan kadar selulosa 50,33%, kadar hemiselulosa 26,97%, dan lignin 7,00%

English Abstract

Kenaf fiber (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) is a potential raw material as an export- oriented raw material in Indonesia. The dew retting method is an absorption technology by utilizing indigenous bacteria with less water, so that the retting process is more environmentally friendly and maintains fiber quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dew retting on kenaf plants with a consortium of indigenous bacteria using the freeze drying method and to determine the effect of the inoculum concentration of BSS media bacterial preparations (bran, skim milk and sucrose) on the chemical composition and physical properties of kenaf fiber. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) which was arranged in a non-factorial manner with a concentration factor of indigenous bacteria (25%, 50%, 75% and control). This research method consisted of identification of indigenous bacteria consortium, microencapsulation, Total Plate Count (TPC) test, application of kenaf retting microencapsulation, analysis of physical properties of fiber, yield, and determination of chemical content of kenaf fiber. The results showed that the fiber of kenaf using the dew retting method using the inoculum preparation of a consortium of indigenous bacteria affected the physical characteristics of the fiber, cellulose content and lignin content. However, it did not significantly affect the fiber yield and lignin content. The consortium of indigenous bacteria identified 15 isolates of bacteria including 5 isolates of cellulolytic bacteria, 5 isolates of hemicellulolytic bacteria, 3 isolates of pectinolytic bacteria and 2 isolates of lignolytic bacteria. Fiber kenaf with dew retting resulted in yield value of 5.08%, shiny white color, fresh smell, medium texture with 50.33% cellulose content, 26.97% hemicellulose content, and 7.00% lignin content
