Abstract

Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mangkaji/menganalisis dimensi Etno-Ekonomi (pendidikan perempuan, pendidikansuami, budayalokal, sistem/type keluarga, upah, family income, non labor income,pengeluaran rumah tangga) yang mendorong partisipasi kerja perempuan menikah etnis Sasak, Samawa, danMbojo, di Nusa Tenggara Barat”. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode kualitatif etnometodologi dengan berusaha memaparkan realitas dimensi etno-ekonomi partisiapasi kerja perempuan menikah etnis Sasak, Samawa, dan Mbojo di Nusa Tenggara Barat. Data diperoleh dari informan perempuan menikah yang bekerja sebagai informan kunci, sedangkan anggota keluarga,dan lainnya yang terkait, sebagai informan pendampng (sekaligus untuk uji validasi). Hasil penelitian menemukan beberapa alasan perempuan menikah untuk bekerja. Alasan ekonomi, tingginya kebutuhan keluarga dan harga yang terus meningkat tidak selalu berjalan searah dengan peningkatan penghasilan menyebabkan istri bekerja pula untuk membantu suami dalam mencari nafkah untuk keluarga. Alasan non ekonomi, ingin mengabdikan ilmu yang telah didapatnya.. Namun, selain alasanalasan tersebut, ada pula perempuan yang memilih bekerja karena merasa bosan dengan rutinitas pekerjaan mengurus rumah tangga atau karena anggapan bahwa dengan bekerja pergaulan dan statusnya lebih baik dibanding hanya menjadi ibu rumah tangga. Secara anggapan dasar semua etnis, bekerja adalah sumber penghasilan. Keputusan untuk bekerja tidak saja dengan suami, tetapi orang tua dan mertua ikut dalam keputusan tersebut. Hasil temuan penelitian ini tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada dua hal besar yang menjadi alasan pokok perempuan menikah tiga etnis di NTB untuk berperan ganda yaitu di satu sisi karena memang “harus” (need), dan di sisi lain karena “pilihan” (want).

English Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze ethno-economoc dimensions (such as wife’s education, husband’s education, culture, family system, wage, family income, non-labor income, and household expenditure) that encourage the working participation of married of Sasak, Samawa, and Mbojo women in West Nusa Tenggara. This qualitative research uses ethnomethodology in presenting the reality of ethnoeconomic dimension of work participation of married Sasak, Samawa, and Mbojo women in West Nusa Tenggara. The data were obtained from married working women, the research’s key informants. Other members of the families are supporting informants, used for validation test. This research finds some reason for married women to work. The economic reasons are that the cost for providing family needs is high and that price increases are not comparable with the increase if income. Therefore, wives start to work to help their husbands providing for the families. The non-economic reasons are that they want to apply their knowledge obtained from their study, that they are bored with housekeeping work, and that they assumsi that working can improve their social status. The general assumption applicable to all ethnicities is that working is a source income. The decision to work is not only influenced by husbands baut also by parents and parents in-low. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that two main reasons of married women from the tree ethnic groups in West Nusa Tenggara to play a double role are “ must” (need) and “choice” (want).
