Doctor thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

The purpose of this quantitative study is to measure the success of Lean Manufacturing (LM) in improving the Operational Performance (OP) of Indonesian food companies with the mediation of Manufacturing Agility Competencies (MAC). The unit of analysis is the said companies that are registered in LPPOM Halal MUI as of August 2019. Using systematic random sampling, 151 companies from the population of 244 were selected as the sample. The analysis was performed through descriptive statistics using SEM-PLS.. This study proves that Lean Manufacturing affects Operational Performance only with the mediation of Manufacturing Agility Competencies through activities such as external relation, knowledge R&D, and reliable resource. The originality of this study is the use of Manufacturing Agility Competencies is a totally new variable whose activities can create standards for product taste. Future researches can be more specific in terms of the sample, such as using certain size of MSME, product characteristics, market segments, and business profiles.
