Abstract

English Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate effect of encapsulated coconut shell liquid smoke as a replacement for AGP in broiler feed on performance, intestinal microflora, and blood profiles. The materials used in this research were 225 Day Old Chick from Cobb strains, which were allocated into 5 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments used in this research were T0 (basal feed) as a control treatment, T0+ (basal feed + Zinc bacitracin 0.05%) as a positive control treatment, T1 (basal feed + 0.5% encapsulated coconut shell liquid smoke), T2 (basal feed + 1% encapsulated coconut shell liquid smoke), T3 (basal feed + 1.5% encapsulated coconut shell liquid smoke). The variables observed included effect of changes in the encapsulated coconut shell liquid smoke (total phenol, total acid, pH, and capsule form) and effect of the biological test of encapsulated coconut shell liquid smoke applied to feed, including: performance (feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion, mortality, and income over feed cost), intestinal microflora (Lactic Acid Bacteria, Salmonella sp, and Escherichia coli), and blood profiles (erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, and their differentiation). Data on effect of changes in encapsulated coconut dhell liquid smoke were analysed descriptively, while biological test data were analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and if there is a significant difference, the result was obtained the continued with Duncan's multiple range test. Results showed that the use of encapsulation technology in coconut shell liquid smoke reduced the total phenol value, total acid, increased the pH value and showed a round, elongated, wavy capsule shape accompanied by cracks. The results of the biological test showed that the treatment had a significant effect on (P<0.05) on body weight gain, leucocytes, and monocytes. However, it did significant effect very significant (P<0.01) on against mortality, IOFC, Lactic Acid Bacteria, Salmonella sp, lymphocytes, and heterophils. Conclusion from the results of this research is the addition of encapsulated coconut shell liquid smoke up to 1.5% can be recommended as a feed additive that can replace role of AGP based on performances of broilers.
