Abstract
"Kabupaten Jember memiliki latar belakang Industrialisasi yang dilakukan pihak swasta pada masa Pemerintahan Hindia Belanda. Tiga kawasan pabrik gula merupakan peninggalan sejarah dari masa Pemerintahan Hindia Belanda yang tidak menua dengan cukup baik hingga saat ini. Pabrik Gula Semboro merupakan satu-satunya kawasan pabrik gula yang masih bertahan dan kental dengan karakter Arsitektur Hindia Belanda. Perubahan yang terjadi pada bangunan huniannya menjadi dasar dari perlunya pelestarian bangunan. Penelitian ini menitikberatkan pada analisis terhadap karakter spasial, visual dan struktural dari lima tipe hunian di kawasan pabrik. Dari analisis tersebut kemudian dikembangkan menjadi strategi pelestarian yang disesuaikan pada hasil penilaian makna kultural dalam rangka menentukan potensi pelestarian dari tiap variabel analisis. Penelitian kualitatif dilakukan dengan tiga metode penelitian yaitu metode analisis-deskriptif, metode evaluasi dan metode development. Analisis pada hunian didasarkan pada variabel yang telah ditetapkan berdasarkan tiga karakter bangunan. Metode pelestarian yang digunakan yaitu rehabilitasi, konservasi dan preservasi bangunan bersejarah."
English Abstract
Kabupaten Jember, as a part of the Karesidenan Besuki, was one of many regions that existed by the interference of the Dutch’s Colonial Government. Jember was set out to be a larger scale region which focus on industry, especially agricultural industry, thus gave birth to many Sugar Cane Milling Facility including the one which now owned by PTPN XI. The Semboro Sugar Factory is the only surviving facility of the other two. The facility still runs till this day and covered a large area of buildings such as the factory, office buildings, and residential area that has strong Colonial Style-ish design. The lack of mandatory maintenance has led to its residential area, suffer from wide range of building deterioration. These problems could be the first step on architectural demise on such spaces. The main objective of this research is to do a full inspection by means space characters, visual characters and structural characters for further preserve, conserve and rehabilitate its building features as overall. Research was conducted on to five different type residential buildings that share the same Colonial Style design. The result is analysis of sub-variabels as presented on the buildings itself. The analysis report then evaluated using six criteria of building’s cultural value. The final score will be the basis of further development on each sub-variabels as the main objective of maintaining, conserving also preserving the existence of those spaces as the representation of it’s architectural history.
