Abstract

English Abstract

Lapindo mud is a hot lava burst that occurs due to leaking oil and gas drilling. Lapindo mud which flows continuously into the Porong River will settle and form a new island called Pulau Lusi (Sidoarjo Mud Island) which has an area of ± 94 Ha. Lusi Island is managed by the government as a mangrove ecotourism area. Lapindo mud contains heavy metal elements, one of which is Cu. One of the mangrove species planted on Lusi Island that is able to absorb heavy metals is Avicennia alba. This study was conducted to determine the heavy metal concentration of copper (Cu) in the sediment, roots and leaves of the Avicennia alba mangrove and to determine the ability of the Avicennia alba mangrove to absorb copper heavy metal. The research was established in April 2021 in the mangrove area of Lusi Island, Sidoarjo Regency. The research method used is a survey method. While the method of determining the sampling location used is purpossive sampling. This research was carried out in 2 stages, namely sampling of sediment, roots and leaves of mangroves in the field and analysis of heavy metal concentration of copper (Cu) using the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer) method in the Chemistry laboratory of the State University of Malang. Supporting data for measuring sediments measured in the form of physical and chemical parameters such as temperature, salinity and pH. Data analysis in this study were bioconcentration factor (BCF), translocation factor (TF) and phytoremediation. Based on the results of the AAS test, the heavy metal concentration of copper (Cu) in sediment samples at the three stations ranged from 0.6313 - 0.9303 indicating that the concentration of heavy metals was still below the quality standard set by US-EPA (2004) Cu = 49,98 ppm and CCME (2015) Cu = 18,7 ppm. The concentration of heavy metal Cu in the roots and leaves of Avicennia alba ranged from 0.5720 - 0.6899 ppm and 0.2154 - 0.4379 ppm, respectively. The test results showed that the ability of heavy metal uptake by roots was higher than translocation in leaf tissue, this was shown in the calculation of bioconcentration factor (BCF), translocation factor (TF) and phytoremediation (FTD). BCF calculation results show that the BCF value <1 means that Avicennia alba mangrove is called an excluder plant. The TF value of the three stations shows TF <1, which means that a phytostabilization mechanism occurs. And the calculation of phytoremediation showed positive results, meaning that some species of mangrove Avicennia alba on Lusi Island could perform phytoremediation on essential heavy metals maximally.
