Abstract

English Abstract

Mangrove forest area in Sidoarjo Regency is one of the areas that are threatened by rapidly increasing human activities in coastal areas. Kalanganyar Village is one of the area that has a large mangrove and now it is under pressure from anthropogenic threats. To maintain the mangrove area in this area, management efforts are needed that include monitoring the condition of the mangrove area. So that the data and information obtained can be used as a management reference. This study aims to determine and assess the condition of mangroves in Kalanganyar Village by using a combined method between remote sensing analysis and vegetation analysis. Mangrove Vegetation Index (MVI) was used for detecting mangroves land cover. The analysis of mangrove vegetation was carried out by analyzing descriptive data on vegetation parameters, mangrove species, tree diameter, tree height, canopy cover, stands density, and Important Value Index also environmental conditions that obtained through field survey. Stratified random sampling was used for the plot sampling method. Based on the MVI method, the mangrove area in the coastal area of Kalanganyar Village is 130 ha. In this mangrove area 6 types of mangrove species found, there are Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, Avicennia oficinalis, Sonneratia alba, Rhizopora mucronata, and Exoecaria agallocha. Mangrove species that grow naturally are dominated by Avicennia alba and Avicennia marina with a muddy substrate characteristic of the beach. The MVI value in the range of 8-15 has a canopy density percentage value of 73-86% for the Avicennia mangrove genus. According to the KEPMEN LH standard criteria, this mangrove area is included in good criteria. In addition, water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, and salinity in this area have met the quality standard criteria.
