Abstract
English Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of adding copper to the rheocasting process on wear and porosity in the results of metal casting. The method used in this research is true experimental research which includes independent variables, dependent variables and controlled variables. The research was conducted by calculating the value of the result of the wear rate and the percentage of porosity in the castings product. The wear test was carried out using the Ogoshi method with the ASTM G99-17 standard. The value of the percentage of porosity was carried out using a pycnometric assay with the ASTM E 252-84 standard. The casting is done using materials in the form of used pistons and the addition of copperwhich is melted at a temperature of 750 C, then the rheocasting process is carried out and followed by pouring it into a permanent mold. The addition of copper made in this study was 5%, 5.5%, 6%, 6.5% and 7%. The results obtained from the wear test were a decrease in the value of the wear rate along with the addition of the given copper . The highest value of the wear rate was in the specimen without the addition of copper of 0.0 0767, while the lowest value of the wear rate was in the specimen with the addition of 7% copper of 0.0 0597 . The results of the porosity test were an increase in the percentage of porosity along with the addition of the given copper . The highest percentage value for porosity was in the specimen with the addition of 7% copper of 6.62%, while the lowest percentage value of porosity was in the specimen without the addition of copper of 2.17%.
