Abstract

"Belt conveyor merupakan alat pemindah bahan yang menggunakan belt tidak berujung berbahan utama karet sebagai alat pengangkut batu kapur bahan dasar pembuatan semen. Kondisi belt yang digunakan secara terus menerus akan mengalami kerusakan misalnya kerusakan aus sobek dan putus akibat gesekan antara material pengangkut dengan bahan yang diangkut. Kerusakan belt dapat ditangani dengan satu jenis penyambungan yang cepat dan ekonomis yaitu penyambungan dingin. Proses penyambungan dingin memiliki beberapa tahapan yaitu pengupasan lapisan belt, pemotongan sudut bias, pengaplikasian material perekat kemudian menggabungkan kedua sisi belt.. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh jumlah ply belt, bias cut dan adhesive thickness terhadap kekuatan geser sambungan belt conveyor menggunakan metode optimasi Taguchi dengan bantuan software. Jenis belt yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah polyester. Metode penyambungan yang dilakukan adalah metode penyambungan dingin yaitu menggunakan bahan perekat, tanpa pemanas. Universal Testing Machine digunakan sebagai alat pengujian kekuatan geser sambungan belt dimana kecepatan beban yang digunakan adalah 1,27 mm/menit hingga sambungan belt mengalami putus maupun kegagalan perekat seperti sambungan terbuka. Pengujian geser dilakukan berdasarkan ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) D 3165 Standard Test Method for Strength Properties of Adhesives in Shear by Tension Loading of Single-Lap-Joint Laminated Assemblies. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode optimasi Taguchi dengan menggunakan matriks orthogonal array L9 (33) yaitu 3 faktor dan 3 level, kemudian dilakukan replikasi sebanyak 3 kali. Hasil analisis penelitian diperoleh kondisi optimal sambungan belt conveyor terhadap kekuatan geser dengan karakteristik kualitas large the better urutan faktor yang berpengaruh yaitu jumlah ply belt, adhesive thickness dan bias cut. Hasil tersebut beradasarkan analisis varian (ANOVA) pada F hitung ≥ F Tabel dimana jumlah ply belt memberikan pengaruh terbesar terhadap kekuatan geser dengan nilai F hitung = 155,3 dan tingkat kontribusi sebesar 86,22%, sedangkan bias cut tidak memberikan pengaruh terhadap kekuatan geser sambungan dengan nilai F-hitung = 0,41 dan tingkat kontribusi hanya 0,23%. English Abstract

Belt conveyor is a material handling equipment that uses an endless belt made of rubber as a means of transporting limestone, the basic material for making cement. The condition of the belt that is used continuously will experience damage, for example damage, wear, tear and breakage due to friction between belt and limestone. Belt damage can be treated with one type of fast and economical splicing, namely cold splicing. Cold splicing has several steps such as stripping the belt layer, cutting the bias angle, applying adhesive material and then joining the two sides of the belt. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of number of ply belt, bias cut and adhesive thickness on the shear strength of the conveyor belt joints using Taguchi method with software. Type of belt is polyester and splicing method for joining belt is cold splicing, using adhesive material, without heating. Universal Testing Machine is used as a shear strength testing tool for belt joints with the loading speed is 1.27 mm/minute until the belt breaks or the adhesive failure. The shear test was carried out according to ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) D 3165 Standard Test Method for Strength Properties of Adhesives in Shear by Tension Loading of Single-Lap-Joint Laminated Assemblies. This research uses the Taguchi method and using an orthogonal array matrix L9 (33 ) with 3 factors and 3 levels, then replicated 3 times of each experiment. Based on the results, the optimal condition of the conveyor belt joints to the shear strength with the quality characteristics of larger the better the order of influencing factor is the number of ply belts, adhesive thickness and bias cut. These results are based on analysis of variance (ANOVA) on F-value ≥ F-table where the number of ply belts has the greatest influence on shear strength with a calculated F-value = 155.3 and a contribution rate of 86.22%, while the bias cut has no effect on shear strength because the F-value = 0.41 and the contribution rate is only 0.23%.
