Novitasari, Della Aura (2021) “Yen Pancen Wayahe Kenek Iku Wis Takdir”: Representasi Covid-19 dan Pemilihan Perawatan Kesehatan Masyarakat di Dusun Kulak Pandaan Kabupaten Pasuruan. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
The emergence of the Covid-19 disease, which became a pandemic, has shocked people all over the world. Until now, the public has not been able to fully understand the current state of the pandemic. There is a lot of information about Covid-19, but for the public the information is too medical to understand. Therefore, people usually have their own perception of a disease as a form of their understanding. This perception can be obtained from the evaluation of the phenomenon to the socio-cultural context that exists in the neighborhood. Through the perception that the community has built, then they will choose health care to avoid Covid-19. The description of this phenomenon forms two problem formulations, namely (1) How is the representation of the Covid-19 disease in the people of Dusun Kulak Pandaan Kabupaten Pasuruan? (2) How does the community choose the treatment according to their representation? I use three concepts in this research. First, the illness representation presented by Christine Liddell, et al and from the writings of Paul Farmer and Byron J. Good to describe public perceptions of the Covid-19 pandemic and disease. Second, I use the concept of health and disease presented by Jon D. Lee to illustrate the understanding of health and illness in the choice of treatment. Finally, I use Alex Kroeger's health seeking behavior to describe the choice of health care in the community. The research was conducted using ethnographic research methods, namely digital ethnography and patchwork ethnography. This method is used as an alternative research method in the current pandemic situation. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and literature studies, all of which were conducted offline and online. The results of the study show that there is a contradictory situation between the public's representation of Covid-19 and their efforts to seek health care. People tend to be skeptical of Covid-19, but they have a fear of hospitals. This fear makes people stay away from hospitals as much as possible and seek other health care
