Abstract
English Abstract
The presence of the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of 2019 which was spreading in Indonesia in March 2020, the government responded by enacting policies to break the chain of the spread of Covid-19, starting with a lockdown, work from home, eliminating or dismissing various activities, there are also regulations to take care of oneself by following the health protocols. Apart from the government's efforts, there is a response from the local community in mitigating the Covid-19 pandemic. This study discusses the efforts of the ritual tradition called tolak bala to face the pandemic and how the community interprets the ritual tradition of grundung lesung during the pandemic, with a case study of Ngluyu Village in a small scope, which are RT 06 and RT 10. The study was conducted using Husrl's phenomenological approach, to see the perspective of the community in responding to the presence of the Covid-19 pandemic and interpreting grundung lesung through community emics. The results of the study show that the community has its own meaning for Covid-19 and there are efforts to hold ritual traditions that have been suspended. The data findings were then analyzed using the ritual theory of Victor Turner to explain the meaning in the implementation of the grundung lesung ritual process and the invented tradition theory to analyze the community's efforts in presenting the grundung lesung ritual which had experienced suspended animation
