Jauharun Nadhifah, Bellah (2021) Exploring the Potential and Drawbacks of Online Learning during Covid-19 Pandemic. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the education aspect. In Indonesia, the government has been implementing distance learning to avoid physical interaction. This is done to break the chain of the Covid-19 pandemic as suggested by UNESCO. Consequently, online learning becomes a famous choice among schools even though some schools are still adapting to this system. Various reactions highlighting the difficulties in the adaptation process have been aired during the implementation of online learning. This kind of learning also brings about numerous potentials as the idea of online learning is not necessarily new to Indonesian education practices. Therefore, this study aims at revealing students’ perspectives about the potential and drawbacks of online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. A survey study was conducted no high school students who experience online learning. A set of questionnaires was distributed using Google form to capture their views about potential accessibility, flexibility, and interactivity works during the online learning as well as the drawbacks covering infrastructure, habit, and learning content aspect. The result of this research showed that the flexibility aspect was ranked as the highest (42,5%), followed by Accessibility aspect (40,7%), and Interactivity aspect (34,5%). On the other hand, the students’ perspective on the drawbacks of online learning. Revealed that the content aspect was ranked as the highest (58,4%), followed by Infrastructure aspect (52,5%), and Habit aspect (51,3%). In conclusion, students and teachers un-readiness in terms of ability in using technology and the availability of adequate learning facilities, poor internet connection, costs, and the inability of students and teachers to adapt in new learning methods seem to be the main problems. That is why they prefer face-toface learning to be re-applied when the Covid-19 pandemic ends. Further, online learning should get more attention to improve in some aspects that are now still lacking
