Abstract

Frisky Ananta Sembiring Meliala, Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Brawijaya University, Juni 2021, The Effect of Additional Limonene Bioadditive on Petrol Engine Exhaust Gas Emission Using Premium Fuel, Advisor Lecturer I: Dr. Eng. Widya Wijayanti, ST., MT., Advisor Lecturer II: Dr. Eng. Mega Nur Sasongko, ST., MT. Everyday human life cannot be separated from the need for fuel. Fuels are chemical compounds that can produce energy through chemical changes. The increasing quantity of demand in the transportation sector, especially motorized vehicles, has implications for an increase in fuel consumption. Fuels in general have additives that are not good for the environment, causing pollution levels to increase from year to year. In this study, it is proven that using limonene bioaditive will produce lower emission levels compared to conventional additives. In this analysis, it is seen that the addition of limonene with a certain concentration in premium as fuel can reduce exhaust emissions that cause pollution. The percentage of adding additives that will be mixed into premium fuels is by comparing the results of mixing additives in the form of limonene oil with a percentage of 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, 10%, 30%, 50%, 80% of the total volume of gasoline. which will be tested is 500 ml. It was found that the more concentration of limonene essential oil bioadditives mixed in premium fuel, the higher the CO2 gas content in the exhaust gas on the gasoline engine, which indicates the combustion is more complete because the product of the combustion reaction, name CO2, is also increasing and decreasing exhaust gas content of CO, O2, and N2. Fuel consumption also decreased with the addition of limonene essential oil bioadditives. This is because the bioadditive in the form of limonene essential oil functions as a complement to the intermolecular reactions in the combustion reaction. The engine speed also increased along with the increase in the concentration of limonene essential oil bioadditive. This is because the same valve opening causes the engine speed to need higher so that the fuel can be burned as a whole. Keywords: Bioaditive, Emission, Limonene, Gasoline Engine, Premium
