Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh waktu pre-treatment gelombang ultrasonik dalam larutan NaOH pada serat bambu petung terhadap kekuatan tarik komposit bermatrik epoxy. Pada penelitian ini penguat komposit yang digunakan ialah serat bambu petung tanpa perlakuan dan serat bambu petung yang dipanasakan menggunakan gelombang ultrasonik dalam larutan NaOH selama 15 menit, 30 menit, dan 45 menit. Metode pembuatan komposit yang digunakan adalah metode vacuum assisted resin infusion. Pengujian tarik dilakukan pada spesimen komposit berpenguat serat bambu petung sesuai standar ASTM D638-01. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi lama waktu pre-treatment menggunakan gelombang ultrasonik dalam NaOH menghasilkan nilai kekuatan tarik komposit yang semakin tinggi dikarenakan adhesi antara serat dengan matriks epoxy yang semakin baik. Kekuatan tarik teringgi didapat pada komposit berpenguat serat bambu petung dengan waktu pre-treatment 45 menit sebesar 161,135 MPa, selanjutnya dengan waktu pre-treatment 30 menit sebesar 149,484 MPa, pre-treatment selama 15 menit sebesar 143,706 MPa, dan terendah pada spesimen komposit serat bambu petung tanpa perlakuan sebesar 110,359 MPa. Berdasarkan analisa melalui hasil SEM dan foto makro menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan yang diberikan mengurangi cacat pull out dan debonding pada patahan komposit karena semakin meningkatnya adhesi antara serat dengan matriks epoxy. Selain itu hasil wettability juga menunjukkan bahwa kemampubasahan antara serat dengan matriks epoxy semakin baik seiiring meningkatnya waktu pre-treatment gelombang ultrasonik pada larutan NaOH.

English Abstract

Residual waste from the use of synthetic fibers in manufacturing industry has increased in the last 10 years and generated 40% waste from the used material. This is dangerous for the environment. Concern for the environment has led to need for eco-friendly material selection. Selection of the natural fibers used for reinforcing composites began to be developed and received more attention. Petung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) is one of the bamboo in Indonesia and its availability is abundant. In addition, petung bamboo has good strength so that based on its characteristics and availability it can be used as a reinforcing material in composite. In this study, reinforcing material in composites is used untreated petung bamboo fibers and petung bamboo fibers is treated using ultrasonic wave with pretreatment time of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes in NaOH solution. The method of making composites is using a vacuum assisted resin infusion method. Tensile testing was carried out on composite specimen was reinforced by petung bamboo fibers according to ASTM D638-01 standards. The results showed longer ultrasonic wave in 1M NaOH solution yielded higher composite tensile strength due to better adhesion between the fibers and the epoxy matrix. The highest tensile strength was obtained in reinforced petung bamboo composites with a pretreatment time of 45 minutes and 163,135 MPa, followed by 30 minutes and 149,484 MPa, 15 minutes with 143,706 MPa, and the lowest tensile strength obtained in petung bamboo fiber composite specimens without treatment was 110,359 MPa. Analysis through SEM results and macro photographs showed that the treatment given reduced defects of pull out on composite due to the increasing adhesion between fibers and epoxy matrix. In addition, the results of wettability test also showed the efficiency between fibers and epoxy matrix improved as the time of pretreatment increased.
