Abstract

Konflik internal membawa dampak pada karakter seseorang. Sebagian besar konflik ini berasal dari pengalaman empiris atau pengalaman yang dimiliki seseorang. Karakter utama dalam adaptasi animasi The Old Man and the Sea misalnya. Kegagalan menangkap ikan selama 83 hari membuatnya merasakan pil kehidupan yang pahit, menjadi tidak berdaya dan dihindari oleh masyarakat. Efeknya ia harus memilih antara dua opsi: mencari solusi atau tidak melakukan apa-apa. Pilihan-pilihan ini cocok dengan eksistensialisme Sartre yang penulis pilih sebagai teorinya. Karakter utama menanggung krisis eksistensialisme yang pada akhirnya mengembalikan esensinya. Dia mengalami kebebasan memilih, kegelisahan dan ketiadaan yang membuatnya mengerti bahwa keberadaan mendahului esensi perjalanan eksistensialismenya diwakili dalam tanda-tanda yang ditemukan dalam film ini, dengan singa sebagai tanda utama. Tanda utama kemudian diwakili menjadi banyak tanda lain seperti arm-wresting, hiu marlin, dan kerangka marlin yang melambangkan kekuatan

English Abstract

Conflict from oneself has an impact on one’s character. Most of these conflicts come from empirical or experience that an individual has had. The main character in The Old Man and the Sea animation adaptation for example. The failure of catching any fish for 83 days made him feel the bitter pill of life, became powerless and avoided by the society. The effect he has to choose between two options: looking for solution or doing nothing. These choices are suitable with Sartre’s existentialism that the author choose as the theory. The main character endures existentialism crisis that in the end bring back his essence. He undergoes freedom of choose, anxiety and nothingness that led him to understand that existence precedes essence his existentialism journey is represented in the signs found in this movie, with lion as the main sign. The main sign then represented into many other signs like arm-wresting, the marlin sharks, and marlin’s skeleton that symbolizes power
