Abstract
Nasionalisme dapat diartikan sebagai hal yang memang sedari dulu telah ditanamkan sejak dini. Ialah suatu ‘keseharusan’ yang dimiliki oleh setiap individu yang dilahirkan di negara tertentu,sebagai bentuk cinta tanah air. Tetapi apa jadinya jika nasionalisme tersebut menjadi ‘tembok’ yang memisahkan suatu kelompok masyarakat yang tadinya mereka ialah suatu kesatuan? Apa yang terjadi kepada masyarakat Melayu yang terdapat di negara-negara seperti Malaysia, Singapura, dan Indonesia kurang lebih dapat digambarkan seperti itu. ‘Bersatu’ dilandasi oleh identitas Melayu, tetapi harus ‘terpisah’ oleh nasionalisme di negara masingmasing. Skripsi ini akan mencoba menjelaskan dan mengupas bagaimana masyarakat Melayu yang terdapat di ketiga negara tersebut, terjebak dalam paradoks nasionalisme dan identitas ke-Melayu-an nya, yang menariknya hal tersebut tidak dapat dipisahkan dari peran kolonialisme pada masa itu.
English Abstract
Nationalism can be described as something that has always been instilled from an early age. It is a 'necessity' that is owned by every individual born in a certain country, as a form of patriotism. But what happens if the nationalism becomes a 'wall' that separates a group of people from which they were a unity? What happened to the Malay community in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia can more or less be described as such. 'Unite' is based on Malay identity, but must be 'separated' by nationalism in each country. This thesis will try to explain and explore how the Malay community in the three countries are trapped in the paradox of nationalism and its Malay identity, which interestingly can not be separated from the role of colonialism at that time.
