Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji peran emosi moral ‘guilt’ (perasaan bersalah) dan kekuatan karakter ‘spiritualitas’ untuk memunculkan perilaku menolong. Perilaku menolong diharapkan akan timbul ketika individu memiliki emosi dan karakter yang kuat sebagai dorongan dari dalam diri. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif – eksperimen jenis between subject. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap 110 partisipan yang terbagi menjadi dua kelompok yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium FISIP Universitas Brawijaya dengan kriteria mahasiswa aktif usia minimal 18 tahun. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan meliputi skenario manipulasi guilt, manipulation check menggunakan skala SSGS, skala VIA-IS 24 Character Strengths, dan paradigma Dictator game yang digunakan untuk mengukur perilaku menolong. Penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan uji statistik multiple regression. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peran yang kuat antara emosi moral guilt, spiritualitas, terhadap perilaku menolong. Hasil yang serupa juga terdapat pada peran spiritualitas terhadap perilaku menolong. Namun, emosi moral guilt tidak berperan terhadap helping behavior karena tidak adanya keterkaitan antara partisipan dengan lawan bermainnya sehingga tidak menimbulkan perasaan bersalah pada partisipan.
English Abstract
This study examined the role of moral ‘guilt’ emotions and the ‘spirituality’ as the strength character to show up the helping behavior. Helping behavior is expected to arise when individuals have emotions and strong character as impulses from within. This study use a quantitative - experimental method and between subject type to 110 participants which divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The research was held at FISIP Laboratory, University of Brawijaya with the criteria of participants: active students to be at least 18 years old. Research instruments were used: guilt manipulation, manipulation check using the SSGS scale, the VIA-IS 24 Character Strengths scale, and the Dictator game paradigm that used to measure helping behavior. This research was analyzed using multiple regression statistical tests. The results shows that there is a strong role between moral guilt emotions, spirituality, towards helping behavior. Similar results were also found in the role of spirituality towards helping behavior. However, moral guilt emotions do not play a role towards helping behavior, because there was no connection between the participant and their opponent, so that does not cause feelings of guilt on the participants.
