Abstract
Candida albicans merupakan salah satu spesies Candida yang paling sering ditemui pada kasus kandidiasis. Fungi ini secara oportunistik bisa menyebabkan infeksi superfisial, maupun infeksi sistemik. Kandidiasis oral merupakan jenis kandidiasis yang paling sering dijumpai, sedangkan kandidiasis sistemik merupakan infeksi organ dalam dengan tingkat mortalitas mencapai 40% di wilayah Asia Tenggara. Penelitian terbaru banyak melaporkan bahwa mulai timbul resistensi obat terhadap Candida albicans. Demi mengatasi masalah resistensi tersebut, pengobatan alternatif perlu segera dicari. Kandungan tanin, flavonoid, dan quinon yang telah terbukti efektif untuk menghambat pertumbuhan Candida albicans ternyata terkandung di dalam kulit pisang ambon (Musa paradisiaca var. sapientum (L.) Kunt.). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri efektivitas ekstrak etanol kulit pisang ambon terhadap pertumbuhan fungi Candida albicans secara in-vitro. Sampel pada penelitian ini berasal dari stok Laboratorium Mikrobiologi FKUB. Konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan adalah : 0%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, dan 40%. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode dilusi tabung. Pada uji one way ANOVA, terlihat adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara perubahan konsentrasi ekstrak etanol kulit pisang ambon terhadap jumlah koloni fungi Candida albicans (p<0,05). Uji korelasi juga menunjukkan bahwa pertumbuhan koloni Candida albicans terhambat (Korelasi, r = -0,905: p<0,05). Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol kulit pisang ambon (Musa paradisiaca var. sapientum (L.) Kunt.) mempunyai efek antifungi terhadap Candida albicans dengan kadar bunuh minimumnya pada konsentrasi 40%, sementara kadar hambat minimumnya tidak dapat ditentukan dengan metode dilusi tabung.
English Abstract
Candida albicans is one of the Candida species that is most often found in cases of candidiasis. This fungus can cause superficial and systemic infections opportunistically. Oral candidiasis is the most common type of candidiasis, while systemic candidiasis is an internal organ infection with a mortality rate up to 40% in the Southeast Asian region. Many recent studies have reported that drug resistance has begun to develop against Candida albicans. In order to overcome the problem of resistance, alternative medicine needs to be found immediately. Tannins, flavonoids, and quinons that have been proven effective to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans are actually contained in the skin of ambon bananas (Musa paradisiaca var. sapientum (L.) Kunt.). This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the ethanol extract of ambon banana peel on the growth of fungi Candida albicans. The sample in this study came from the FKUB Microbiology Laboratory stock. The extract concentrations used were: 0%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, and 40%. The method used is the tube dilution method. In the one-way ANOVA test, there was a significant difference between the addition of the concentration of ethanol extracts of ambon banana peels to the number of fungi colonies of Candida albicans (p <0.05). The correlation test also showed that the growth of Candida albicans colonies was inhibited (Correlation, r = -0.905: p <0.05). From this study it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of ambon banana peel (Musa paradisiaca var. sapientum (L.) Kunt.) has an antifungal effect on Candida albicans with a minimum bactericidal consentration rate at 40%, while its minimum inhibitory consentration cannot be determined by the tube dilution method.
