Ramdhan, Mohammad (2019) Optimasi Campuran Biosorben Kulit Kakao, Ampas Kopi Dan Cangkang Telur Terhadap Penurunan Total Krom Dan Sulfida Limbah Cair Penyamakan Kulit. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

English Abstract

The leather tanning indusrty is one of the oldest industries in the world and it’s growing rapidly in Indonesia. However, the industrial production process produces hazardous wastewater. The tannery Industry wastewater has a high total chromium and sulfide. One alternative method of processing wastewater is biosorption. Biosorbents from agricultural waste is the most potential to be developed in Indonesia such as cacao pod husk, spent ground coffee, and eggshell because abudant availability, have different characteristics and functional groups. This study aims to determine the optimal mixture of cacao pod husk, spent ground coffee, and eggshell biosorbent and identify functional groups that play a role in decreasing total chromium and sulfide. The research design used Response Surface Methodology (RSM) Box-Behnken model with 14 types of treatment variances. The research began with biosorbent production, wastewater sampling, biosorption processing, total chromium and sulfide testing, data processing, and data validation. Also, the optimum proportion tested by FTIR to determine functional groups that play an important role in decreasing total chromium and sulfide. Based on the results, the optimum condition for the mixture of cacao pod husk, spent ground coffee, and eggshell biosorbents in ratio 1.03:1.72:2.8 with removal total chromium by 80% and sulfide 82%. Based on the result of FTIR analysis, the functional group of O–H, C–H, C=O, C=C and C–O play an active role in the absorption of total chromium and sulfide ions found in tanning wastewater
