Widiyanto, Muhammad Galih (2019) Studi Pengaruh Fraksi Volume Bahan Dan Perlakuan Dengan Kalium Permanganat (Kmno4) Pada Serat Kenaf Terhadap Sifat Mekanik Komposit Sebagai Bahan Lambung Kapal. Sarjana thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.
Abstract
English Abstract
The utilization of natural fiber from previous study for the usage of alternative material in the ship hull was newly accomplished for the standard modulus of elasticity of Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI). The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of volume fraction of kenaf fiber (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) as a filler and epoxy resin as a matrix; and the addition of 3% alkalization treatment of Potassium Permanganate (KMnO4) in 30 minutes immersion time to modify the fiber surface and increase the mechanical characteristics of the composite in order to reach the BKI standard for application of ship hull material. The fabrication of the composite is done by the hand lay-up method, and is tested by tensile testing for single fibers; as well as tensile and bending for composites. The testing is carried out for composites with fillers treated with KMnO4 and composites with fillers without treatment; using seven variations in filler:matrix volume fraction for each type of composite which are 50:50, 52:48, 54:46, 56:44, 58:42, 60:40, and 62:38. The results of the highest tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, bending strength, and modulus of bending elasticity in composite samples with fillers without treatment are (57.43 ± 8.37) MPa respectively; (2171.83 ± 316.97) GPa; (112.75 ± 16.88) MPa, and (3952.31 ± 635.52) GPa. Composites with fillers that were immersed in KMnO4 had a result of the highest tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, bending strength, and modulus of bending elasticity in composite samples with fillers without treatment are (29.66 ± 3.07) MPa respectively; (968.03 ± 108.71) GPa; (99,91 ± 6,69) MPa; and (4928,58 ± 653,71) GPa. However, both types of composites that have been made produce mechanical characteristics that are not sufficient enough for BKI standard.
