Abstract

Penentuan jenis kelamin individu melalui gigi-geligi dianggap sebagai langkah penting dalam bidang forensik. Perbedaan karakteristik gigi antara dua jenis kelamin laki-laki dan perempuan disebut dengan dimorfisme seksual. Dimorfisme ukuran gigi disebabkan oleh adanya perbedaan efek growth-promoting kromosom X yang memengaruhi pertumbuhan enamel dan kromosom Y yang memengaruhi pertumbuhan dentin. Tujuan: Menganalisis perbedaan anatomi tinggi dan lebar dentin pada gigi permanen laki-laki dan perempuan menggunakan radiograf panoramik. Metode: Studi observasional dengan pendekatan antropometri yang dilakukan dengan mengukur tinggi dan lebar dentin pada gigi permanen. Sampel berupa masing-masing 30 radiograf panoramik laki-laki dan perempuan berusia 17-25 tahun. Pengukuran dilakukan pada tinggi dan lebar dentin gigi permanen insisivus sentral, insisivus lateral, kaninus, premolar 1, premolar 2, molar 1, dan molar 2 pada seluruh regio gigi menggunakan aplikasi CliniView 3.02 kemudian dilakukan pencatatan hasil pengukuran dan dilakukan uji statistik paired T-test untuk pengukuran intra-observer reliability dan uji independent T-test. Hasil: Uji paired T-test menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada pengukuran pertama dan kedua (p>0,05). Hasil uji independent T-test menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan signifikan ukuran tinggi dan lebar dentin laki-laki dan perempuan (p<0,05). Kesimpulan: Ukuran tinggi dan lebar dentin gigi permanen laki-laki lebih besar dibandingkan perempuan secara keseluruhan.

English Abstract

Sex determination of the individual through teeth is considered an important step in the forensic field. Difference in dental characteristics between the sexes of male and female are called sexual dimorphism. The dimorphism in tooth size is due to the differences of the growth-promoting effect in X-chromosome which affects the growth of enamel, and in Y-chromosome which affects the growth of dentin. Purpose: to analyze the anatomical differences of dentin height and width in male and female permanent teeth using panoramic radiographs. Methods: Observational study with an anthropometric approach was carried out by measuring the height and width of dentin in male and female permanent teeth. Samples consisted of 30 panoramic radiographs of men and women aged 17-25 years respectively. Measurements were made on height and width of the dentin of the central incisors, lateral incisors, canines, first premolars, second premolars, first molars, and second molars in all regions using CliniView 3.02 software, then recorded the results and tested by paired T-test for intra-observer reliability and independent T-test. Result: Paired T-test showed no significantly different on the first and the second measurements (p value> 0.05). The results of independent T-test showed that there were significantly different between height and width of male and female dentins (p value< 0.05). Conclussion: The height and width of the dentin on permanent teeth in male is greater than female.
