Abstract

Amerika Serikat menggunakan strategi diplomasi koersif untuk memaksa Korea Utara membatalkan tindakan provokasinya berupa uji coba rudal dan program pengembangan nuklir. Diplomasi koersif Amerika Serikat yang menggunakan instrumen sanksi ekonomi sudah dilakukan semenjak North Korea’s Armed Forces melakukan invasi ke Korea Selatan pada Juni 1950. Pada tahun 2017, Donald Trump menggunakan diplomasi koersif dengan intrumen kebijakan strategic accountability yang berfokus pada tekanan maksimum melalui sanksi ekonomi terhadap Pyongyang untuk menghentikan tindakan provokatif dan memaksa negara tersebut melakukan perundingan. Pertemuan antara kedua pemimpin Korea pada April 2018 membuka langkah awal untuk terjadinya denuklirisasi di Semenanjung Korea. Untuk meneliti bagaimana strategi diplomasi koersif Amerika Serikat terhadap Korea Utara pada tahun 2017 – 2018, penulis menggunakan konsep Coercive Diplomacy dengan dua variabel yaitu Coercive State Strategy dan Target State’s Domestic Politics and Economy yang ditulis oleh Bruce W. Jentleson dan Christhoper Whytock.

English Abstract

The United States uses a coercive diplomacy strategy to force North Korea to cancel its provocative actions in the form of missile tests and nuclear development programs. US coercive diplomacy using economic sanctions has been carried out since North Korea's Armed Forces invaded South Korea in June 1950. In 2017, Donald Trump used coercive diplomacy with strategic accountability policy instruments focusing on maximum pressure through economic sanctions against Pyongyang for stop provocative actions and force the country to negotiate. The meeting between the two Korean leaders in April 2018 opened the first steps towards denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula. To examine how the influence of US coercive diplomacy on North Korea in 2017 - 2018, the authors use the concept of Coercive Diplomacy with two variables, namely Coercive State Strategy and Target State's Domestic Politics and Economy written by Bruce W. Jentleson and Christhoper Whytock
