Abstract
Pada masa sekarang, alih wahana khususnya film adaptasi tidak bisa dianggap remeh. Film tersebut mempunyai dampak menggiurkan dalam kepopuleran sang penulis, perfilman, dan keuntungan untuk studio film. The Breadwinner berkisah tentang seorang remaja yang berumur sebelas tahun bernama Parvana, harus menyamar sebagai laki-laki guna bertahan hidup dan melepaskan ayahnya yang dipenjarakan oleh para tentara Taliban. Peneliti memilih film ini karena lekat dengan isu sensitif, yakni pandangan Taliban dalam menerapkan Islam di kehidupan. Teori Alih Wahana dari Linda Hutcheon diaplikasikan untuk menguak alasan perfilman dalam mengalih-wahanakan novel ke film. Terkait dengan rumusan masalah kedua, Teori Alih Wahana dari Pamusuk Eneste menguak perbedaan dan persamaan dalam novel dan film. Data yang berkaitan dengan alasan perfilman dalam melakukan alih wahana novel ke film, diperoleh dari surat kabar online, wawancara, dan jurnal. Tangkapan layar serta percakapan dalam film digunakan untuk pengkategorian data ke ragam proses alih wahana yakni pengurangan, penambahan dan perubahan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menguak alasan dari Twomey dan Jolie dalam membuat film, yakni bersifat pribadi, dan kemudahan dalam pembuatan film. Ada tiga jenis ragam yang termasuk dalam teori alih wahana yakni modifikasi dalam plot ada tiga, karakter (sembilan), latar tempat (lima). Sedangkan pengurangan dalam karakter ada empat, latar tempat (empat), latar waktu (tiga). Lalu, penambahan ada dalam plot berjumlah dua, karakter (satu), latar tempat (sembilan), latar waktu (satu). Terakhir, persamaan atau tidak adanya proses alih wahana dari novel ke film ditemukan di bagian latar tempat dan latar waktu.
English Abstract
Nowadays, a film adaptation cannot be underestimated. It has many impacts toward the author’s popularity, the filmmaker’s prestige, and profit for the studio. The Breadwinner: Eleven years old girl named Parvana disguises as a boy in order to survive and release Baba-Jan that is sent to jail by The Talibs. The researcher chooses this film because it contains the sensitive issue on The Taliban’s Islamic view and its implementation toward life. Adaptation theory by Linda Hutcheon is applied in this research to scrutinize the adaptation of The Breadwinner. In line with the second problem of the study, Adaptation theory by Pamusuk Eneste is used to reveal the differences and the similarities between the movie and the novel. The data related to the filmmaker’s motives were collected from online newspapers, interviews, and journals. In addition, the screenshots on film scenes and the dialogues were used for categorizing types of adaptation (reduction, addition, and modification). The result of the research reveals that Twomey and Jolie’s motives in adapting the novel The Breadwinner into the film are based on personal factors and legal constraint. There are three types of adaptation which are found in the film adaptation: modification on the plot (three), characters (nine), and setting (five). reduction on characters (four), the setting of places (four), the setting of times (three), addition plot (two), character (one), the setting of places (nine), a setting of time (one). Then, the absence of the adaptation process in The Breadwinner film occurs on the setting of place and the setting of times.
