Hubungan Antara Intelligence Quotient (Iq) Dengan Miopia Pada Anak Usia Sekolah

Tolombot, Zaltonys (2018) Hubungan Antara Intelligence Quotient (Iq) Dengan Miopia Pada Anak Usia Sekolah. Magister thesis, Universitas Brawijaya.

Abstract

Kesimpulan : In this study there was a significant relationship between Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and refractive error but this relationship was included in the low category

English Abstract

Purpose : This study aims to determine relationship between intelligence quotient (IQ) and refractive error in school aged children. Methods : Analytic observational study with cross sectional approach. The sample of this study was 211 students from 4th, 5th and 6th class of Lesanpuro Malang Elementary School and 9th class students Lesanpuro Malang Middle School who perfomed to refraction examination and IQ tests and then performed statistical analysis. Result : The distribution of refraction status consisted of myopia 35 subjects (16,58%), simple myopic astigmatism (SMA) 6 subjects (2,84%), compound myopic astigmatism (CMA) 2 subjects (0,94%), hyperopia 4 subject (1,89%), myopia+emmetropia 7 subject (3,31%), myopia+CMA 5 subject (2,36%), SMA+emmetropia 4 subjects (1,89%), SMA+CMA 1 subjects (0,47%) and emmetropia 147 subjects (69,66%. Intelligence quotient (IQ) tests for all students obtained Superior results on 1 subject (0.47%), High Average of 8 subjects (3.79%), Average of 83 subjects (39.33%), Low Average of 112 subjects (53.08 %), Borderline Defective as many as 6 subjects (2.84%), Mentally Retardation only 1 subject (0.47%). It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship or association between IQ tests and refractive error. This relationship is included in the low category because it is below 0.2. The relationship between IQ test results and refractive abnormalities with a p value of 0.047 or with a p value = <0.05 (α = 5%). Conclusion : There is a significant relationship between intelligence quotient (IQ) and refractive abnormalities but this relationship falls into the low category.
