Abstract
Penelitian ini membahas mengenai Proses Mahasiswa Gay Yang Melakukan Coming Out dalam Masyarakat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini Untuk memahami bagaimana proses tindakan coming out yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa dan memahami bagaimana proses memahami makna coming out melalui interaksi sosial individu gay anggota IGAMA. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Interaksionisme Simbolik karya Herbert Mead. Mead meilhat dalam interaksi sosial manusia dalam berkomunikasi melakukan tindakan balasan atau respon terhadap tindakan orang lain. Tindakan coming out merupakan sebuah tindakan pengakuan membuka diri akan orientasi seksual yang berbeda terhadap individu kepada orang lain. Tindakan tersebut berupa penegasan bahwa identitas seksual sebagai homoseksual terhadap diri dan orang lain yang mengandung resiko bahaya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Teknik pengambilan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Pemilihan informasn secara purposive dengan 1 informan kunci, dan 3 informan utama. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa fenomena gay sudah semakin berkembang pesat dan berani untuk membuka identitas seksualnya yang berbeda kepada masyarakat. Untuk membuka identitas seksual mereka yang berbeda tidaklah sangat mudah. Dibutuhkan beberapa proses untuk mengetahui apa itu istilah coming out, bagaimana bisa menjadi individu yang sudah coming out dan langkah apa yang harus dilakukan setelah melakukan coming out. Proses tersebut dilakukan agar individu gay mendapatkan pengakuan dari masyarakat. Untuk melakukan coming out dipengaruhi oleh 4 tahap tindakan. Empat tahap tindakan tersebut meliputi impuls, perspesi, manipulasi dan konsumasi. Dari empat tahap tersebut dapat membantu individu gay untuk melakukan coming out. Selain itu konsep diri I dan me juga berpengaruh akan kelangsungan dalam proses melakukan coming out. Adapun bentuk-bentuk mahasiswa gay yang sudah coming out adalah sebagai berikut : ketika ada acara reunian di salah satu fakultas di universitas negeri Kota Malang, individu gay sudah berani mengungkapkan jati dirinya sebagai gay dihadapan umum, selain itu beberapa invidu gay juga sering diundang di acara lembaga-lembaga tertentu dan ada juga yang menjadi petugas untuk masalah HIV/AIDS di Dinas Kesehatan Kota Malang.
English Abstract
This study discusses the Process of Gay Students Doing Coming Out in Society. The purpose of this study is to understand how the process of coming out actions carried out by students and understand how the process of understanding the meaning of coming out through the social interaction of gay individuals members of IGAMA. This study uses the theory of Symbolic Interactionism by Herbert Mead. Mead sees in human social interaction in communicating retaliatory actions or responses to the actions of others. The act of coming out is an act of acknowledgment of opening up to a different sexual orientation towards the individual to another person. The act was in the form of an affirmation that the sexual identity as homosexual towards themselves and others that contained the risk of danger. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. The selection of information purposively with 1 key informant, and 3 main informants. The results of this study found that the gay phenomenon is growing rapidly and is brave enough to open up a different sexual identity to the public. To open their different sexual identities is not very easy. It takes several processes to find out what the term comes out is, how to become an individual who has come out and what steps to take after coming out. The process is carried out so that gay individuals get recognition from the community. That gays don't always have to be looked upon badly. To do a coming out is influenced by 4 stages of action. The four stages of action include impulse, perspective, manipulation and consumption. From these four stages can help gay individuals to come out. Besides self-concept I and me also affect the continuity of the process of coming out. As for the forms of gay students who have come out are as follows: when there is a reunion event at one of the faculties at the state university of Malang, gay individuals have the courage to express their identity as gay in public, besides that some gay individuals are also often invited to the event certain institutions and some were officers for HIV / AIDS problems at Malang City Health Office.
