Abstract

Seksime adalah sebuah perilaku diskriminasi dimana salah satu gender di anggap lebih baik dan superior di bandingkan gender lainnya. Di dalam kehidupan masyarakat, seksisme lebih banyak menimpa wanita terlebih di tempat kerja yang banyak di dominasi oleh laki-laki. Salah satu penyebab seksisme sendiri adalah paham system patriarki di mana laki-laki dianggap sebagai pemegang kekuasaan utama dan mendominasi dalam segala bidang. Peneliti mengadakan analisa pada film The Post untuk menganalisa seksisme yang dialami karakter wanita bernama Katharine Graham dan juga perjuangannya untuk melawan seksisme yang terjadi kepadanya. Pendekatan Feminisme Liberal digunakan di dalam penelitian ini berhubungan pada perjuangan Katharine Graham untuk memperoleh kebebasan sebagai seorang wanita untuk berpatisipasi dalam bidang ekonomi serta menjadi seorang pemimpin. Teori seksisme digunakan dalam studi ini untuk menganalisa seksisme yang dilakukan oleh beberapa tokoh pria tertentu terhadap tokoh Katharine. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa perilaku seksisme yang terjadi dalam film The Post terbagi menjadi dua bentuk perilaku. Yang pertama yaitu perilaku male chauvinism dan ketidakpercayaan pada pada seseorang yang berbeda gender. Kedua perilaku ini di tunjukkan oleh beberapa tokoh pria tertentu kepada Katharine. Sedangkan perjuangan yang dilakukan Katharine berdasarkan pendekatan feminisme liberal dibagi menjadi empat bentuk yaitu kritikal, menjadi pembuat keputusan, menunjukkan sisi androgini, dan membuktikan dirinya sebagai pemimpin wanita yang profesional.

English Abstract

Sexism is a form of discriminations where one gender is considered better and superior compared to the other. In daily life, sexism often occurs to women, especially in workplaces which are dominated by men. One cause of sexism is the understanding of a patriarchal system in which men are considered as the main power who dominate all fields. The researcher conducted a study on The Post movie to analyze the sexism experienced by a female character named Katharine Graham and also her struggle to fight sexism that happened to her. The Liberal Feminism approach is used in this study relates to the struggle of Katharine Graham to gain freedom as a woman to participate in the economy and become a leader. The sexism theory is used in this study to analyze the sexism done by certain male characters towards Katharine. The results of the study show that the sexism behavior that occurs in The Post is divided into two forms of behavior. The first is male chauvinism and mistrust in someone who is of a different gender. Both of these behaviors were shown by certain male figures to Katharine. Whereas the struggle that Katharine carried out based on a liberal feminism approach was divided into four forms which are being critical, make and take her own decision, showing her androginy, and prove herself as a professional leader.
