Abstract

The Blind Side adalah film yang diangkat dari buku yang berjudul The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game karya Michael Lewis, yang kemudian dibuat versi film oleh John Lee Hancock. Film ini bercerita tentang Michael Oher, seorang anak keturunan kulit hitam yang miskin dan tinggal di Hurt Village. Dia adalah anak peliharaan negara karena ibunya seorang pecandu narkoba. Dalam film ini digambarkan praktik nilai Amerika yang dipraktikkan oleh masyarakat nya. Semua nilai Amerika dapat ditemukan dalam film ini melalui karakter Michael Oher, Burt Cotton, Leigh Anne, dan Sean Tuohy. Nilai kesetaraan kesempatan dapat ditemukan dari Burt Cotton yang mengijinkan Michael Oher untuk bersekolah di Wingate Christian School dan bergabung dalam tim football. Sedangkan kompetisi, kerja keras, dan kekayaan materi dapat ditemukan dari pengalaman yang dialami Michael Oher. Leigh Anne dan Sean Tuohy mempraktikkan kesetaraan kesempataan saat mereka memutuskan untuk menjadi orang tua angkatnya. Pengumpulan data yang menunjukkan praktik nilai Amerika dianalisa dan didukung teori studi film dari Boggs and Petrie dan pendekatan sosiologi untuk mencari fakta yang terjadi di masyarakat Amerika untuk mendukung argumen penulis. Hasil dari penilitian ini adalah praktik nilai Amerika dilakukan oleh beberapa karakter dalam film ini. Mereka mempraktikkannya bukan untuk diri mereka sendiri tetapi juga untuk menolong Michael Oher agar memiliki hidup yang lebih baik.

English Abstract

The Blind Side is a film based on a book called The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis, which made into film by John Lee Hancock. The film tells the story of Michael Oher, a poor black descendant living in Hurt Village. He is a child cared for by the country because his mother is a drug addict. This film illustrated the practice of American Values. All American values can be found in this film through the characters of Michael Oher, Burt Cotton, Leigh Anne, and Sean Tuohy. The value of equal opportunity can be found from Burt Cotton who allowed Michael Oher to attend Wingate Christian School and join the football team. While competition, hard work, and material wealth can be found from the experience of Michael Oher. Sean Tuohy and Leigh Anne practice the equality of opportunity when they decide to become adoptive parents. Data collection that shows the practice of American values is analyzed and supported by the theory of film studies from Boggs and Petrie and sociological approaches to find facts that occur in American society to support the author's argument. The result of this research is the practice of American values carried out by several characters in this film. They practice it not for themselves but also to help Michael Oher to have a better life.
