Abstract
Fenomena pada penggunaan bahasa berbasis latar belakang dan gender kini telah muncul di masyarakat. Masing-masing gender dan juga mereka yang dikategorikan sebagai bangsawan dianggap menggunakan gaya bahasa yang berbeda saat berkomunikasi. Tak jauh berbeda dengan yang terjadi di masyarakat, karakter pada film superhero, khususnya karakter bangsawan pada film Thor: Tagnarok tentunya memiliki gaya mereka masing-masing. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menemukan gaya bahasa paling dominan yang digunakan oleh Loki dan Hela sebagai representasi orang bangsawan pada masing-masing gender. Selain itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifkasi pengaruh latar belakang dari karakter pada gaya bahasa yang digunakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk menjawab rumusan masalah. Secara umum, data penelitian ini adalah ucapan yang dibuat oleh Loki dan Hela. Sedangkan Film Thor: Ragnarok digunakan sebagai sumber data. Berdasarkan pada 126 data yang dianalisisi menggunakan teori oleh Joos (1967), diketahui bahwa kedua karakter menggunakan tiga gaya bahasa yaitu gaya konsultatif, gaya kasual dan gaya intim. Namun, Loki menggunakan gaya konsultatif sebagai gaya paling dominan, sedangkan Hela menggunakan gaya kasual sebagai gaya paling dominan. Setelah itu, diketahui bahwa latar belakang demikian pula dengan sifat alami dan peran Loki dan Hela mempengaruhi gaya bahasa yang digunakan. Penggunaan gaya bahasa tersebut juga dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang dari setiap karakter yang terlibat dalam percakapan. Untuk memperkaya hasil studi mengenai gaya bahasa, disarankan bagi peneliti selanjutnya untuk menggunakan teori lain seperti teori yang dikemukakan oleh Baxter (2010) atau teori oleh Haas (1979). Direkomendasikan pula untuk menggabungkan analisa berbasis gender dengan analisa berbasis umur dari segi subyek penelitian. Dan terakhir, genre film yang lebih kuat seperti genre politik, medis, sejarah dan nonfiksi diusulkan sebagai obyek penelitian untuk menemukan keberagaman hasil.
English Abstract
Phenomenon on language use based on social background and gender has appeared in society at the moment. Each gender as well as those who categorized as noble people are considered using different speech style when it comes to communication. Similar to the condition of the society, characters of superhero movie, particularly noble characters of Thor: Ragnarok movie surely have their own style. Therefore, this study aims to determine the most dominant style used by both Loki and Hela as the representation of noble on each gender. Moreover, this study also aims to identify the influences of the social background of all characters involved in the conversation to the speech style used. Qualitative approach was used to answer the research problems in this study. Generally, the data used in this study were the utterances produced by Loki and Hela. While Thor: Ragnarok movie was used as the data source. Based on the analysis of 126 data using the theory by Joos (1967), it was shown that both characters used three speech styles, namely consultative style, casual style, and intimate style. Yet, Loki used consultative style as the most dominant style, while Hela used casual style as the most dominant style. Afterward, it was also found that social background, as well as the natural trait and the role of Loki and Hela, influenced the use of the speech style which was also supported by the social background of each character involved in each conversation. In order to explore more about the field of speech style, it is suggested for future researchers to use other theory such as theory proposed by Baxter (2010) or theory by Haas (1979). It is also recommended to combine gender-based and age-based analysis in terms of the subject. Finally, stronger types of movie such as political, medical, historical and non-fictional are advised to be used as the object of the study to find a more varied result.
