Abstract

Kini sepeda motor bukan sekedar alat transportasi. Sepeda motor kini juga menjadi gaya hidup yang menjelaskan indentitas penggunanya. Itulah sebabnya tidak heran kini banyak pengguna motor melakukan perubahan atau modifikasi pada ‘tunggangan’ kesayangan mereka. Passion yang dimiliki oleh Faisal dan teman-teman Jakarta Bikers Community menghantarkan kepada fenomena budaya material, dimana mereka tidak hanya menganggap motor milik mereka sebagai benda yang sekedar benda, melainkan mereka menanggap motor milik mereka sebagai benda yang hidup, hingga mereka cenderung untuk melakukan gaya hidup konsumtif dan tidak ragu untuk mempercantik dan mendadani motor mereka sedemikian rupa hingga menghabiskan uang sampai dengan ratusan juta rupiah sampai akhirnya mereka mencapai kepada kepuasan dan kebanggan. Rasa kepuasan dan kebanggan yang diperoleh oleh Faisal dan teman- teman Jakarta Bikers Community ini merupakan sebuah simulakra yang dikemukakan oleh Baudrillard ketika mereka dapat memodifikasi motornya sedimikian ‘wah’ yang dapat diekspresikan melebihi fungsi asli dari motor sebagai alat transportasi.

English Abstract

Now motorbikes are not just transportation. Motorbikes is now also a lifestyle that explains the identity of its users. That is why it is not surprising that many bikers now make changes or modifications to their favorite 'baby'. Passion that owned by Faisal and friends of Jakarta Bikers Community leads to the phenomenon of material culture, where they not only consider their motorbikes as objects that are merely objects, but they regard their motorbikes as living things, so they tend to do consumptive lifestyle and not hesitant to beautify and dress their motorbikes in such a way as to spend up to hundreds of millions of rupiah until finally they reach satisfaction and pride. This sense of satisfaction and pride gained by Faisal and his Jakarta Bikers Community friends is a simulakra proposed by Baudrillard when they can modify the motorbikes such as 'wow’ which can be expressed beyond the original function of the motorbikes as a means of transportation.
