Abstract
Penelitian ini membahas tentang politik identitas masyarakat Betawi dalam memperjuangkan eksistensi identitasnya melalui upaya yang dilakukan oleh Forum Betawi Rempug sebagai organisasi kelompok etnis di Kota Jakarta tahun 2018. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif-deskriptif, yang mana data yang dihasilkan berasal dari wawancara (interview) kemudian di analisis secara kualitatif. Studi ini menjelaskan munculnya Forum Betawi Rempug merupakan akibat dari pengalaman masyarakat Betawi sebagai penduduk asli kota Jakarta yang semakin terpinggirkan seiring dengan perkembangan tempat tinggal mereka. Selain itu adanya stereotype negatif yang selama ini tersemat mengakibatkan masyarakat betawi mengalami krisis identitas. Sebagai organisasi etnis Betawi, Forum Betawi Rempug mampu berperan penting dalam menjaga eksistensi masyarakat Betawi yang selama ini termarginalkan secara ekonomi, politik dan budaya. Hasil studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa pembentukan organisasi Forum Betawi Rempug merupakan respon masyarakat Betawi terhadap permasalahan keterpinggiran yang mereka alami. Dengan adanya Forum Betawi Rempug masyarakat Betawi mengalami penguatan identitas sesuai dengan karakteristik budaya, agama, dan sosial yang mereka miliki. Terdapat upaya-upaya yang dilakukan oleh Forum Betawi Rempug dalam menjaga eksistensi etnisnya yaitu secara struktural dengan memberikan dukungan politik atas anggotanya untuk bisa menempati ruang-ruang birokrasi, dan secara kultural dilakukan dengan mengaktifkan seluruh potensi sosial budaya yang mereka miliki seperti penyelenggaraan Festival Kebudayaan Betawi. Dengan hal ini, Forum Betawi Rempug telah mampu meningkatkan eksistensi masyarakat Betawi di tengah heterogenitas kota Jakarta.
English Abstract
This research tried to explain the political identity of the Betawi people in order to maintain and fight for its existence through efforts made by the Betawi Rempug Forum as an ethnic group organization in the city of Jakarta in 2018. The method used in this study is a qualitative-descriptive research method, which the data results obtained through the interview and then analyzed qualitatively. This study explains that the emergence of Forum Betawi Rempug is a result of the Betawi people's experience as a native of Jakarta who has increasingly been marginalized along with the development of their homes. In addition, the presence of negative stereotypes that have been embedded has caused the Betawi people experience an identity crisis. As an ethnic organization of Betawi, the Forum Betawi Rempug is able to play an important role in maintaining the existence of Betawi people who have been marginalized economically, politically and culturally. The results of this study revealed that the establishment of the Forum Betawi Rempug was the Betawi people's response to the marginalization problems they experienced. With Forum Betawi Rempug the Betawi people have strengthened their identities according to their cultural, religious and social characteristics. There are several efforts made by the Betawi Rempug Forum to maintain its ethnic existence, structurally by providing political support for its members to be able to occupy bureaucratic spaces, and culturally carried out by activating all their socio-cultural potential such as the holding of the Betawi Cultural Festival. In conclusion, the Forum Betawi Rempug has been able to increase the existence of the Betawi people in the midst of the heterogeneity of the city of Jakarta.
