Abstract
Pengucapan adalah salah satu komponen keterampilan berbicara yang mengambil peran besar untuk memahami sebuah percakapan. Berdasarkan studi yang dilakukan, 33 siswa kelas X Busana Butik 2 di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan 1 Batu memiliki masalah dalam pengucapan bahasa Inggris. Dalam hal ini siswa jarang berlatih cara pengucapan bahasa Inggris dengan benar. Creative Poetry Writing adalah strategi yang digunakan oleh peneliti untuk memecahkan masalah siswa dalam pengucapan. Poetry dalam ELT tidak hanya memberi para guru materi-materi berguna tetapi juga mendorong para guru untuk mencoba strategi dan kegiatan baru dengan siswa mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas sebagai metode penelitian dan strategi CPW diterapkan kepada siswa dalam satu siklus, dimana penerapan strategy tersebut terdiri dari lima kali pertemuan. Kegiatan dari penerapan CPW adalah berupa menulis berdasarkan model, presentasi, eksplorasi, hingga siswa memproduksi cerita atau puisi mereka sendiri. Peneliti juga menggunakan hasil dari tes pengucapan di setiap pertemuan, lembar observasi, dan kuesioner sebagai instrumen dalam pengambilan data yang berfokus pada prestasi siswa dalam pengucapan.. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa CPW dapat membantu siswa untuk meningkatkan pengucapan mereka dalam bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dianggap berhasil ketika nilai seorang siswa mendapatkan peningkatan pada setiap pertemuan. Dari hasil lembar observasi, strategi CPW dibuktikan dapat membantu guru untuk menyelesaikan hambatan siswa dalam keterampilan pengucapan. Sehingga, peneliti menyarankan strategi ini menjadi cara yang efektif untuk mengakhiri masalah siswa dalam pengucapan mereka dan dapat menjadi pertimbangan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan lainnya. Meskipun strategi ini berhasil, strategi ini memberikan beberapa batasan untuk kebutuhan dari keterampilan tertentu dalam hal ini pengucapan.
English Abstract
Pronunciation is one of speaking skill components which takes the big role to make an understanding conversation. Based on the preliminary study, 33 students of first graders of X Busana Butik 2 at Vocational High school 1 Batu had a problem in pronouncing English. The students were rarely to practice how to pronounce the English correctly. Creative Poetry Writing was the strategy that used by the researcher to solve students problem in pronunciation. Poetry on ELT is not only providing teachers with practical materials but also encourage them to try new strategies and activities with their students. This study used classroom action research as the research design and CPW strategy was implemented to the students in one cycle, where there are five meetings in applying the strategy. The activities of CPW explained as writing using model, presentation, exploration, and producing students’ own story or poem. The researcher used score of pronunciation test, observation checklist, and questionnaire as the research instruments to collect the data, which is focused on how the students’ improvement in pronunciation. The result of this research showed that CPW can help the students to improve their pronunciation in English. This study was considered successful when one of students’ score improve in each meeting. From the observation cheklist result, the CPW strategy is proven to be able to help the teacher to solve students’ obstacles in pronunciation skill. Then, the researcher suggest this strategy is effective way to terminate students problems in pronunciation and can be consideration for improving other skills. Even though this strategy had been successed, it gave the limitation for the necessity of particular skill such as pronunciation.
